Just fitted a K&N air filter to the TL,quick question......

Does the fuelling need changed to compensate or does the ECU on a 2000 TL1000r adjust fuelling itself?Just that it's started to pop/bang on the overrun when letting off the throttle, fine during acceleration though.Just got out my work tonight and fired the bike up,started straight away, suddenly just remembered to phone the other half to get the tea on,am a comin home!Switched off the bike so she could hear me ok on the mobile, ended phone call, bloody bike wouldn't start again!!!!Bloody women!!!Then all of a sudden it fired up again??

Someone else suggested that.First thought that came into my head was the ecu had upped the fuelling and that was unburnt fuel that was popping in the exhaust(like my Busa used to do)If it was running lean wouldn't that affect acceleration? It pulls like a train,no missing at all?
I'm no expert, but I don't think the ECU's from 2000 can adjust, like the later ones can. (could be wrong though) K&Ns let more air through, which will make the bike run slightly leaner, giving a much crisper throttle response lower down the rev range. The flip side is that at prolonged high speed the bike could suffer from detonation, (too much air and not enough fuel). As said above, someone else will be along, with more of an idea.

It will pop and bang a bit on over run. The ECU won't self compensate but to be honest, it's not going to do any harm. Sounds cool and won't damage the bike. If your worried about it, get a yoshi box of ebay which will reprogram your ECU (if you know what your doing) Or buy a power commander for the bike and download a generic map of the dynojet website.
Nothing to worry about
Nothing to worry about

A couple of things i noticed while fitting the filter,a)Top cover for air box housing was missing(cheap mod by someone?)and there was a leak at the rear exhaust connection at the link pipe just behind the engine(just needed seperated and pasted).Don't suppose all this would help!
I kinda like the popping and a fartin.I'll try the Yoshi and see how i get on,thanks for the advice guys!
I kinda like the popping and a fartin.I'll try the Yoshi and see how i get on,thanks for the advice guys! Some people remove the box top to pull in extra air low down in the rev range. The standard airbox has the SRAD system which seperates the airbox into two sections. At higher speeds and RPM two flappers open and allow the box to presurise. On the TL forums there is a mod, known as the "JoeV Airbox mod" which involves removing this flapper system from the airbox. Does give better low down grunt.
Yeah,
There is a lot of stuff there
If your into your modifying: here is the mod i was telling you about...
