Changed my mind - Triumph Daytona 600
Discussion
Had a test ride on a Daytona 600 last Saturday and what a fantastic machine ! OK, so my only other experience is an ER-5 500cc twin learner bike but the Daytona was so smooth, fast and just felt so well bolted together, no drive line shunt, just a smooth throttle and clutch, excellent brakes and just felt so right.
Any reason not to buy one ? Have found one for £3k on an 05 plate (it's late 04, reg'd 05) with 4500 miles. It's HPI clear and looks in mint condition.
I know it's not quite as fast as an R6/GSXR600 but that's good, don't want a balls out racer, just a quick bike that handles well.
Moto Guzzi can wait, maybe later

I'm not sure if its the same engine as the TT600, but I've owned the TT since new (02) and have covered almost 20K miles with no trouble at all. I have done about a dozen trackdays on it, and although it struggles to keep up with jap counterparts, it p*sses over them on the bends.
The Daytona 600 was introduced as a replacement to the ugly TT. The press totally slated Triumphs introduction to the 600 market, yet when Ride magazine (the only mag worth reading at the mo) tested all the bikes a couple of years ago to establish the best bike ever, the TT managed to get in the top 6.
Buy British!

there have been more gsxr s explode and go wrong than there have been 675 s
the gsxrs have been around since 1996 so yeah your prob right i have read at least 5 differant instances of 675's burning oil and subsiquent engine damage because owners didnt "notice" until it was too late
also 2 seperate head gasket failures
keep an eye on yours
-im not trying to rubbish your bike just reporting on what ive read-
i hope yours continues to provide you with alot of enjoyment at reliable service in the years to come

The 675 has a reputation for using oil - not sure it applies to the 600.
675 = 3 cylinder motor600 = 4 pot.
My point referred to the earlier post that stated simply "they use oil and pop head gaskets". This post has now been edited to differentiate between the 675 (triple) and 600 (i4) and makes my post look a bit different.
600 Daytona is a great road bike. As far as i know it has the 600 Four from the TT but with the engine map sorted to fix the low speed snatchyness . Its basically the same engine as the Speed 4 naked. (which didnt sell too amazingly well)
Anyway once again as far as i know, no known vices. Not quite as fast as the latest Jap 600's but handles exceptionally well.
If its for the right money i think you'll be very happy with it and of course you'll be a bit different from the R6,Gixxer 600 boyz...

i thought it was just ducati owners that failed to recall/admit to there marques Poor Reliability reputation

Like i quoted earlier, 20k miles on my TT without as much a visit to the dealer other than normal servicing. The bike has been treated with contempt at times, having screamed around the likes of Cadwell, Snet, Donny and Brands. No kids gloves treatment for the trumpet I can assure you, and as far as reliability goes, I haven't had a better bike.

On the other hand, my Laverda.........?
