Sports bike cans

[GR4]

My recently acquired 2000 R1 is still fitted with the standard can. Very quiet and looks quite big on the bike. Which aftermarket cans do you all run or recommend ? I'm interested in all the factors really - Looks, sound, quality, performance gains, although not much of latter I suspect because I'm only looking at cans, not full systems.

A Micron would be the obvious choice....it does what it says in the tin without costing the earth & comes in a large range of finishes....

I have a carbon and titanium Akrapovic on mine - sounds fantastic when you give it the beans, but not too loud when you're pootling through the village at midnight. Perfect.

I have a Blue Flame EVO can. I have only taken the smallest baffle out so far (cue cheeky comments), but it sounds good, in my mind it looks good.... worth a look. There's plenty of choice, oval, dual, evo, stainless steel, titanium etc. Mines on an R6. They were doing a 15% discount when I got mine about a month ago.

I've only ever used Titanium Akrapovic's on all my bikes, no problems with them and fantastic build quality as well.

Andy, do these come with removable baffles? If not, I assume they're road/track legal?

I was lucky - my Akra was on the bike when I bought it, along with a personal 'R1' plate Tempted to flog the plate actually, i'd far rather have a plate that's hard to remember!

I think my neighbour has been through 3 cans on his R1 in the last few weeks before he found one he liked the sound of. I will ask him tomorrow what they were and post his feedback

titanium Akrapovic nothing else will do!

Speaking from experience, don't expect much of a power gain on an R1 from just a can, do it for looks, sound and a bit of weight saving but you will only sound like you are going faster. As for which one if cost isn't a factor Akrapovic,Arrow or JAPANESE yoshi is what I would use. Changing the subject the real gains on that year R1 are made at the front end, let me know if you want more info.
