I've got a mark, about the size of a 50 pence piece on the frame where my boot has been rubbing. Basically it is a white mark, and looks like the black paint has worn away.... after 420 miles?!

So, is this to be expected, or do I kick my toys out when I take it back for it's first service and demand action?
Never happened to any of my other bikes.

Cheers.

Have you got a picture of where it is? Quite a few people have had this, I'm guessing it's where your toe is? I seem to have avoided it somehow (got a mark somewhere else though due to another bit of my boot) but one solution I've seen is to put some stick on (black) non-slip matting on it.

I was thinking of putting some spare bits of my venture shield kit on there though, that would work I think.

As already mentioned, welcome to Suzuki build quality! smash Wait until your fairings start flaking...

P.s. I asked about this at my first service and was told it'd be rejected as a warranty claim frown

Close. It's on the clutch side, where the ankle boney bit sticks out. Canappreciate over time this happening, but after 8 days??

But Nick, you knew from your test ride that the R1 wasn't the bike for you, didn't you? wink

Do the "anti stone chip film" people do anything that you could use to protect the frame?

Na, went for the pukka dealership, gold star, paint rubbing off UK spec. I bet the imports don't have this!

Err....yeah, course!

Not sure. TBH I wasn't expecting it to cost near on £300. Just bought another sat nac for the bike, so the mrs ain't gonna be too chuffed with more spend.

To be fair though, if your boot is rubbing on any painted/anodised frame, it's going to wear through eventually. Just like the paint on a petrol tank, no matter how many coats it has, it'll wear through without a tank pad fitted.. nothing to do with build quality imo.

If it's any comfort the paint rubs off the heel guard (I think) of my 929 blade on to my right boot. Happily it's the least of it's cosmetic issues.

That hasnt been my experience.

I bought a new Thunderace in 2000 and just watched it rot whenever it got wet , along with the porous crankcases , the blown head gasket at 1000 miles , thats the worse from my experience. I would never buy another Yam .

If i had to select a worse build quality from rumours , I would have thought it was big K by a mile

The paint seemed to rub off the undertray on mine whilst it was traveling down the road on it side with no rider......

Don't think it was a build quality issue......wink

I had a ZX12R from new (the first model in 2000) and kept it for 7 years. Build quality was spot on and kept looking good all those years. I sold it with over 29k miles on the clock, still had original chain and sprockets.

I bought a new ZZR1400 a few weeks back and decided on that due to my good experience with regards to build quality on the ZX12R, so nothing wrong with Kawasaki on that front smile
