Infinity's holding the price at £13,995 on the road - not a bad price for a bike with forged Marchesini wheels, Ohlins suspension and a slipper clutch, as well as the pretty hot basic R1 spec list.

Waste of money I reckon. You can put Marchesinis on yourself. Get the stock suspension re-valved, you dont need a slipper clutch and spend the rest on a full Akro Ti system and a power commander.

Youd still have change for some braided lines.

Yep but I'd still rather have one of them than a 999. Lets face it anyone that buys an SP whatever the make is probably more interested in the bling rather than getting the best riding experience for the money spent.

Bling?

Strange mind you have there Blade7. I had a YZF750sp years ago, and bought it for the trick suspension and extra performance it had over the standard model, which I also had.

Bet your Gixer, sorry, (hate that word) GSXR, looks like it's crashed in to M&P...

My mates Dad has number 97. His exhaust is R1 BOMB and you may have seen it at bassets pole if you live in the west Midlands. Its nice but it isn't used on track (98 R1 for that) so the suspension is not really needed IMO.

I've rode the standard rsv & rsvr with full ohlins & on the road i couldn't tell any difference. I've only rode the rsvr on track though, so can't compare them at a faster pace.

imo for the road, ohlins aint worth the extra cash, although they do look bettercool

Not sure about ohlins fork seal quality aswell, in 10,000 miles, my old rsvr had the seals replaced twice due to leaks! i heard this happening to others aswell. I've never had to replace forks seals on Japanese made forks.

I agree,Ohlins look the dogs dangles...but they also have a finer degree of adjustment & they can be dialled in better if you are looking to go proper fast..standard stuff has a wider operating range...The dark grey R1 SP model last year or the year before with gold marchinesi`s was a stunning looker...yes

750SP lol, what did it have flat slide carbs and some ohlins stickers, used to whup them on my exup, and I wouldn't take up betting as a sideline treacle, you aren't very good at it.

You forgot the close ratio gearbox, sweetheart.

An old exup, would be quicker in a straight line, but so what. Or are you a straight liner. scratchchin

You're flirting with me aren't you ?. I have to admit to being very uncomfortable with the situation so I must let you down as gently as possible and back away, goodbye.

RSV's have a good suspension setup to start with, again I've ridden both. I got my YZF 750sp after owning a standard one for a couple of years, and their was a huge difference, the roads around here a great for bikes, with a helluva difference in surfaces, and types of road.

It's one of the first things I always try to improve with my bikes.

John.

I have a blade, 1995 Urban Tiger. I had a new WP shock on the back, and the front end reworked with WP springs and new oil. It was set up by an expert.

Best money ever spent. It has transformed the bike. Totally money well spent over exhaust system, or other performance mods.

..........and before you go getting all trouser-tented about Ohlins that appear to come standard on some Yamahas, bear in mind that Yam own the Ohlins brand. So they can stick an Ohlins sticker on whatever saggy old coke can full of rubber bands and sewing machine oil they choose to fit to their bikes.

XJR for example.....

Save your money, get your standard shocks revalved for your style and weight with decent oil. Same result.

But then the Rizla leathers wearing afficionados with the shiny knee sliders down at Poole Quay wouldnt be nearly as impressed with that would they.....
