OK,

I was trying to think of requirements for an ideal bike, whilst I was on a rideout this weekend....

I decided the requirements, but I don't think the bike exists!
1, The ability to wheelie easily.
2, 200 mile tank range
3, Comfy enough to ride the 200 miles between fill ups
4, Suspension that can absorb bumps rather than chuck me out of the seat
5, The ability to still keep up with sports bikes on bumpy english roads (So it's the rider letting the bike down, not the bike letting the rider down)

I guess a Pan is probably the closest to the mark apart from the Wheelie/Hooligan element... and that's important too - I do a fair few miles but I'm only 26 so don't want to be old before my time!

Maybe the new Tiger? But I guess that's got the normal "100 miles to reserve" tank size too.

Any suggestions? What makes your ideal bike?

well I have narrowed my next bike to

1050 Speed triple
KTM SUperduke
Gix 750

All ride differently, but I would want something thats not common ( OK THE GIX IS) fun, enjoyable and like the look of it. and confortable

A 1200GS will do all the above very well, with the weakest point being wheelies, and is more fun than a Pan or other touring bikes.

A Gixxer 1000 will do all except absorb bumps, but it's a real hoot.

The GS is a great all-round tool but just sometimes you want a little more whizz. Which is where the Gixxer scores, but it can be too tempting to ride like a kn*b all the time.

Try a few and see what you like, but at 26 you maybe shouldn't pick something too boring!!

I'd love an excuse to get a gixxer though but I bet it's got sh*t tank range too.

You can get 200 miles to a tank if you want to, riding 'normally' I get 165-170, less if pushing on, but it really is quite frugal.

i've got a mate with a '51' reg tiger, he can get over 300miles per tank on motorways. oh & it wheelies like i dont believe. normal accleration out of a roundabout & hes just sat there on the backwheel without even clutching it - mind you he had got a load of camping gear on the back, seems it makes the front light?

Would suggest buying something like a Tiger 1050 and then fitting it with top notch bespoke suspension and the lightest wheels your wallet can stomach.

I recon the TDM900 will tick most of those boxes. Not sure of the tank range though.

Very under estimated machines that are worth a look.

Hey guys. Sorry, I was actually having to do work at work today so I couldn't come on and chat....

ZZR1400 would be wicked ! I do love my Kwaks and that is a beast! Anyone know if they do their 0% on that?

I think I'll book a session on a tiger at my local dealer to see if I get on with it smile

Not sure about the TDM, went past one that other day at 100 and the rider looked like he was hanging on for grim death, might just be that bike was shagged though, I guess.

Tuono fits apart from tank range, 200 mile range bikes dont exist in hooligan land, i've already had a Pan, they dont handle in straight lines, let alone corners...Just got rid of an 1150GS, with decat pipe fuelling etc, but was still like a compressor to ride. Got the Tuono and its more like it!
