Rang HG at the weekend enquiring about a dark visor for my Arai Viper Gt and was told they do not stock them because they are illegal, is this correct, every other biker I see has a dark visor?

As far as I understand it you're only allowed so much tint on a visor, however you can get around this and fit as dark a tinted insert as you like. This applies in the same way you can were sunglasses as dark as you like. As an alternative, just go to a different shop. wink

Some BiB do carry a gadget to test light transmission - for tinted windows, etc.

Rules on motorcycle visors is 50% light transmission which sounds a lot but isn't actually very dark. Crazy, as my Oakley sunglasses are way darker than that.

Online sellers based overseas will sell them though

Get one from the visor shop. If you get pulled then you'll know the view of your local police wink

I've been using one for the last couple of years and regularly ride past police and I've not been stopped yet. I do always carry a clear visor with me and obviously don't wear the tinted one at night.

As said above, just make sure you carry a clear one and use it 'responsibly'.

The irony is, I see quite a few Met police riders wearing them!

Personally, I've just stopped wearing my Arai Signet-GT in favour of a Caberg Rhino. The Rhino has 2 visors built into it (a dark one which slides down behind a clear one) and a flip front which is useful for petrol stations payment etc. I was concerned about wearing a 100 quid lid vs. my 400 quid Arai - but it's amazingly good for the money! Comfortable, quieter than the Arai (which are notoriously noisy) and the flip down interior dark visor is brilliant.

My commute is due east in the morning and west in the evening - so I get direct sunlight in my eyes both ways. Driving without a dark visor would be bl00dy dangerous for me.

I've used racevisors a few times in the past. Good service and price.

I've been wearing black visors since 1985 and have never had a problem with them even when I've pulled for speeding etc.

You'll generally only get nicked if you're in Wales, riding like a numpty, give the police any lip, or ride with one in the dark.

I've always found it ridiculous that you can wear shades but not a visor so stuck with the visor.

Mine was a twinyes
Well actually it wasn't mine, I borrowed it off a mate, cos at the time I was saving for an LC250, which I got about a month after passing, now that was a hooligan machineyikes

When I did my test, it was in the days when they just stood in the road at strategic points, and you road past. They didn't follow you on another bike like they do nowdayshehe
i had a 350LC on a Y plate (last of the proper ones) as my first bike after passing my test biggrin

I've been using dark visors (daytime only) for ever and even when I've been nicked by fascist-speed-kills-you're-gonna-get-a-ban-cop, it has never even been mentioned.

However I have never ridden in North Wales..........
