FS1E on sale for £5k ... !
Discussion
Now my moped of preference (back in 1978) was a Yam TY50 but my mates all had AP50s or the standard 'cool' bike, the FS1E ...
There's one for sale for 5k I've seen ... mint though (not that that justifies the price!)

See it on www.motorcyclesunlimited.co.uk - there's some lovely old big Hondas on there too.

This sounds like a plug for them, but I don't know the firm in question ... saw it while browsing on the MCN site

fark, me and my mate back in our yoof had one of these in red, and an old bog seat chicken chaser C50 called "The Rat" I think they both ended up in the Mersey after some spirited hijinx on them. 5 grands a lot of dough for a bike like that though. Saying that, I am currently looking for an RC30 but they too are obscene prices!
Have a look at this thread that i started a while back -

Yep,it just takes one 40+ year old bloke with more money than sense to take a nostalgia trip and fondly remember the fizzy he owned in the 70's,he then pays silly money for a restored example, then every joker with an old scrapped fizzy or pile of parts sitting in a shed thinks its worth thousands.

I take it you will not be paying 5k for a fizzy then Knibbo.Biker's Nemesis said:
I paid £110 for my 18 month old one in 1982.
Ah! but that would have been a restricted one (Had to be restricted to max 30mph if registered after 1st August 1977.) The one in the ad would have been one of the last full top speed (45mph - maybe up to 50 on a down hill)) models.
My old SS50 5 speed was faster IF (and it was a big IF) there was either a down hill or tail wind
- it would go well past 50 and the speedo markings only went to 50 - but, if there was a head wind or slight up hill then the FS1E's would come past easily.

Mine was just like this one!

When I bought mine it was totally standard, but being even dafter than I am now I had to fiddle. A horribly noisy "pea shooter" exhaust was bought, and the barrel and head were ported and skimmed by ARD, disc valve was also altered a larger main jet fitted, along with a harder plug, oh and of course Castrol R, for the authentic race smell.
The Blue tank, was striped and repainted in white, with red checks. Rear springs were painted with red Humbrol enamel. A stolen recovered DX, donated a disc front end, but I never managed too get hold of any RD 50 mag wheel's too finish it off.
I grew tired or replacing Piston, and was on the maximum limit for rebores/pistons, so I had the bright idea of fitting a Yb 100 engine. which went OK, untill it was stolen from Newcastle City centre.
Out of all my mates from back then, none of them had a standard bike Keith AP 50, with a P100 engine ( I think that's what it was called) Kev SS50, with a 70, step thru head/barrel, Dave, tuned MB 50.
A great first year too biking, and the start of my apprenticeship.
John.
I'm sure my mother has photo's, of it somewhere.
