So, not having been a member of the biking fraternity for long, I haven't paid too much attention to this forum (which I'm now putting right!). However, I've hung out on the site long enough to be familiar with the concept of the Euro/Megahoon.

Do we not get anything like that for the two-wheelers then?

I know that some of you guys (most?!) have/are travelling abroad around this time of year, but I figured how much better would a trip like that be if you didn't have to lug everything with you on the bike? So I was wondering if there would be a demand for a similar thing that the cars have, organised via this site i.e. everything booked up, complete itinerary(sp) organised, support vehicle in attendance etc etc.?

Or is there not enough of us to make it worthwhile?

Not that I am in any way volunteering my services, it was just a thought. smile

Nice idea.

I'm picking up my new 675 on Saturday.

I was toying with the idea of going to the Nurburgring next summer (19 euros/lap) then to a Moto GP at Mugello or similar?

Is that if we go along with the cars, or would the bikes get their own Hoon?

I'm sure if there is enough interest Nick would sort out a BikeHoon smile

Nick and his team are superb but a megahoon on a bike could be a step to far given the mileage! However an event for bikes would be cool particularly if back up support could carry the luggage. Hint hint....... smile

In fairness to Nick, this years megahoon has less mileage per day following feedback where people wanted to spend a little more time seeing the places we were staying (this years trip would be a good bike route, 2005 and 2006 would have been too much riding per day). With clear details of how long riders want to be riding each day he'd customise a route to suit.

cheers

I've emailed Nick to make him aware of this thread.

We would love to do a hoon for PH bikers. I think it would have to be a separate trip from the cars but otherwise we could offer the same services with luggage carried for you plus mechanics.

It would be helpful to know what the PH bikers would want in terms of a trip:

How many hours riding per day
Places of interest
Hotel types

I will speak to Ted and see if he can set up a forum where you can register interest and give feedback/suggestions in a way we can harvest the information and create a tour you want.

Leave it with me and I'll get something moving with this.

In the meantime, feel free to email me or post here with your ideas.

regards,
Nick

Something like this would interest me although it would be dependent on price and distance etc....
From my own point of view, I'm on a naked bike now so I don't think I could cover the same sort of distances as I would on a faired bike when 600miles plus per day were easy done. I would probably go with half the distance per day on interesting roads (maybe a little more to get a motorway day finished in one go). Avoid the July/August period as it gets bleeding hot inside the leathers/helmet/gloves. Probably September would be a decent time as it's a little cooler and most of the holiday traffic has died down, hotels won't be so full/expensive. May/June is too busy with other stuff/Le Mans/Pistonfest/etc. Personally I'm not so concerned about 5 star luxury for a night but somewhere comfortable with a decent meal and a few drinks and safe parking for the bikes.
Routewise, I don't know... Ferry down to Spain then Pyrenees/South West France (although you either have a long ferry trip or a long motorway trip at some point). Alps (always interesting routes through the Alps)over into Italy/Slovenia and back through Austria and Switzerland.
Don't know but I'll keep an eye on the threads/forum and see what develops.

Tours companies already exist doing this sort of thing. MCI tours is a well known one.

Anyone else notice that these idea's are great until you see the price that is charged for them ?

What my budget needs is 1 person to come along in a car to carry all our tents/spares so that I only have to pay about 10 euro's a night at a campsite!

Anyone up for organising a Budget Hoon for bikers?

The likes of the Eurohoon tours are pricey but you do stay in top notch places. Swanky hotels in Monte Carlo will never come cheap.

There is a market for something a bit lower-spec, though.

I'm not averse to organising something myself.

Could even organise a motorhome!

To be fair, that's more what I had in mind, well, a notch or two down at least from the car Hoons anyways. Don't think I'd fancy doing the tent every evening/morning!

In terms of an actual trip, obviously distances and locations are infinite, but the main things I would be looking for from an organised hoon are a support vehicle inc. mechanic for luggage/spares etc, and places to stay that don't cost the earth (B+B's as already mentioned).

As far as locations/distances go, I had in mind possibly 2/3 days riding etc, take in a MotoGP (Le Mans/Sachsenring?), then another 2/3 days riding etc, thus combining a foreign GP with a Hoon at the same time.

Ooh, me & a mate have just returned from a week around Europe taking in the Alps, the Tirol & the Dolomites. 2300+ miles (plus travel to Eurotunnel), Saturday to Saturday & average €55 a room. It's not cheap but the trip was fantastic.

Back to the Pyrenees next year methinks smile
