Bad Day at the Hislop Momorial
Discussion
Was out on the Steve Hislop momorial run yesterday, ended seeing the result of two accidents in the space of 2 miles. Second one was fatal.
Both riders went wide at left hand bendes and hit on coming traffic, 1st one hit a volvo riders in bad way by alive, seconf rider hit the fire engine that was on the way to help the first accidnt, rider got run over and was instantly dead.
Not sure if it was too fast or lake of skill and target fixation but worth taking a serious look at how you ride on the road.
About 100 of use turned back and went home after the second accident.
I for one will never ride again in such a big group.
I hope the organisers take a strong look at their route, as it was a disgrace that they took such a big group on these narrow roads.
Try and keep it safe on the road guys.

Tragicaly ironic - a memorial to one of the best real roads racers that there's ever been, who survived all of the enermous risks involved only to die using one of the safest forms of transport, leads to the death of someone commemorating them.
I'm with others on the dislike of riding in large groups (or even with just one other bike around whose rider I'm not familiar with). I never feel safe in those circumstances & I decided against going on the Ace run on Sunday for just that reason.
R.I.P.

Hoooold up there.Try and keep it safe on the road guys.
Its a tragedy, no doubt. But how is it anyone elses fault than the people who were on the spot and could have done something about their speed/road positioning/proximity to other riders etc ie the deceased?
You cant blame the organisers.

In my opinion that road is not suitable for 1200 motorbikes. I said so prior to leaving Abington to the rest of our group, having riden that road before, i suggested that the section between moffet and selkirk be avioded. Low and behold 2 riders down one killed.
Its quite clear that the route was wrong.
Oh and the organisere also seem to think so.

Weren't anywhere near the A66 in Durham were you? I saw possibly the biggest group of bikes I've ever seen besides a MAG demo or HOG gathering...
