Went out for a quick run up to south wales, a bit chilly this morning but very nice run. I went with my cousin who's got a Speed triple with a few extra's on. Ohlins, Power commander, high flow air filter etc.... so a bit quicker then my 600 Fazer.

well he heard about my lack of demo at Fowlers on tuesday so let me have arun on his bike.

And WOW, so much power from so low down. stick it in 4th and its almost just like a twist and go. power from about 1500RPM all the way to the limiter. about 30 miles all around the twistys and it felt great to ride. the suspenshions set hard ( my cousin uses it on track as well) but felt very easy to ride and get used to

I did not notice that much of a differrence between my fazer with part fairing and the triple even at over a ton on private roadsrolleyes

what can I say very very impressed with it. but I will test ride a few other bikes before I decided what to get next marchthumbup

Once you have had a try on a big bike you never look back. I know that 600's and 750's are light and nimble but a 1000+ bike has so much grunt it can get you out of trouble and out of the bends nice!

I managed to get a pillion ride on a Super Blackbird which was awesome. A very experienced rider, lots of talent and sensible and by god did that thing shift, incredible experience. What it must be like without my fat arse on the back I have no idea haha

My Dad (now in his 70's) got me into bikes. He rode HRD 1000 black shadows and alike and he always told me that a bigger bike is safer as you don't need to push the bike to it's limits to do what you want to do. It is better to have some head room and a bike with bigger tyres, better brakes and a bit more weight on the road so that you are not effected so much by wind and the road surface.
It kept me alive all these years and never thought of riding a bike under 1000cc.

Have fun and be safe.

Now imagine a bike with another 60bhp, that will be a proper big bike!!

As for getting a new street tripple next year, i cant think of a better biek on the market right now, was riding with the local triumph dealer last week on the triple and its a great bike, prviding you are not much over 6 foot.

They only have a demo in the shop and wont get their first customer bike until Nov. Demand had gone through the roof.

After hauling the ST around the Dales yesterday, I was grateful for the endless torque but sweating like a rapist from heaving its bulk through the twisties.
Now a 1300cc V4 engine in a 600 sports frame... scratchchinideayikeshehe

Dave!
A friend of mine has a 2004 Blackbird and it really does shift! It's comparable to my R1 but when i wind the throttle on on the R1, the bike wags about and is quite 'animated', whereas the 'bird is so heavy that nothing moves, the world just goes backwards! I was actually pretty impressed with the handling too, for such a big bike.

How many bikes got 170-180 BHP at the rear wheel? the triple got about 115 at the rear wheel and thats more then enough for me. too powerful a engine woulsd not be much good as i am using it to and from work every day like I do with the fazer

Yes, yes...I'm here!!
I'll get the R1, eventually. I can't see me being any quicker on it round the track, and that's where I intend to get most of my "fun"! I risk losing my licence everyday on the 750, so I guess I'll be worse on the R1!!
Next year, when I've got the space for 2 bikes, I'll get one!

I could not even think of who fast a R1 would be, the triple was just amazing to ride. I want one.

List of extras If I get one:

First Exhaust, Power commander, Air filter. any suggestions on any of these that will fit on a 1050 triple? My cosuin has a Zoerst which sounds just amazing and is raod legal whent he baffel is in. But I don't want the same as him. any likes to goot exhaust manufacures

then flyscreen
Bellypan,
rear Hugger
Would like all that in Carbon

Moved up from a CBR600F to a Fireblade this year. What a difference.

It is nice to have that extra power but in the real world a 600 is all you need. I'm looking at the Street Triple as the test ride is fantastic to go alongside the Blade for those days I just want to take it easier or round town!

Get the hugger first as the amount of road crud that splatters the rear suspension is unbelievable. There are a number on the market but from what I've heard the Triumph parts fit the best. Mine took about five minutes to fit.
Have a look on t595.net for exhaust ideas, there's a few posts about it. MIne came with the Triumph race cans and sounds good but there's a number of low single pipes which are supposed to be good.
The new Speed Triples have a metal tank rather than plastic, which is my only real wish (better for a tank bag) and unfortunately the metal ones can't be retrofitted on the older bikes.
