Well, my record of 26 years with no accidents while riding on the road came to an end this morning! The combination of new tyres, cold morning and crap road surface resulted in a very gentle 50mph front end wash out on a right hand bend.

The bike slid along the road for about 30m to 40m with me coming to rest about 5m short of that having done a slide followed by a couple of rolls. Damage to me is minimal with just a few slight aches but I expect I’ll be a bit stiff tomorrow.

The bike appears to have a scrapped RH fairing, bent front brake lever, scrapped bar end, scrapped pillion food peg and has worn a hole in the generator cover so appears to have come off remarkably lightly. A more thorough inspection later may reveal more but fingers crossed. If anyone knows of any good sources of spares for a sliver FireStorm then please do let me know.

Ah sh!t. Sorry to hear that David, but glad you're ok. Temperatures really did plummet last night eh?

Do some tyres perform better at low temps than others?

Glad to hear you're ok. Bike can be easily repaired.. David Silver Spares for good priced Honda parts (official and pattern), def recommended. http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/
Out of interest just how new were the tyres and what type had you just put on it?

Thanks for the David Silver note. I have used them before and they are very good.

Tyres are Michelin Pilot Road 2 and have done about 25 miles which was three runs of about 7 miles at very gentle rates and then another 4 this morning. I knew they were still new and was taking it very easy (hence the limited damage) but they still caught me out.

The good thing is that I'm now going to have to ride for at least another 26 years in order to break my record. Might soon be time for a new bike! biggrin

Many thanks for all the comments. I'll see if I can post some pics of the damage over the next couple of days while I work out what really does need to be replaced.

Bloody amatures.

Glad you are Ok though, and sorry for the bent bike...new tyres are SCARY! - have thought about always buying part worns when I need to replace!

Just to be clear, this is not my first off! I managed a few accidents in my "yoof" but it's been 26 years since my last one!

New tyres can be scrubbed in easily in the dry or wet, you just have to take it easy for about 50 miles. I would never even contemplate part worns on a bike, unless they are tyres off your own track bike which you want to finish off on the road, but never tyres someone else has used eek
