...... as most of you will have seen from my other thread, I am awaiting a court summons for speeding.

I was speaking to some of the lads at work today - none of them petrolheads (50% don't have cars or bikes) - and they have never known anyone to be so unlucky or stupid to have been caught. (Wildone63 - I know your opinion so it is not needed here!!)

It got me interested in what other peoples records are for driving, especially among the petrolheads on here.

Not that I am looking for a league table, or bragging rights for being "big and clever"* - just curious as to what others experiences have been on the road.

To start:-

I have been driving for 14 years - and had a bike licence for 3 years
I have so far been punished on 3 different occasions

1 x SP 30 - 3 pts - 78 in a 70 - 1998
1 x SP 30 - 3 pts - 34 in a 30 - 2003
1 x SP30 - 6 pts - 76 in a 40 - 2003

All offences in a car - and all by camera - apart from the 1 outstanding

* I am taking the pee

I got caught once some years ago in a car by a policeman with a speedgun standing behind a road sign for 36mph just before a 40 limit.

3 points and a fine.

ahem...1 x DR 10 - 1981...well I guess we've all done it, I happened to get caught & a ban of 18 months followed redface
1 x SP 30 - 3 pts (errrr.....56 in a 30!...I've never done it again!) 1994 I think - on bike by hand-held speed gun - stopped by bike cop who just raised his hand & I pulled in.
1 x SP 50 - 3 pts 90 on M'way 2003 - In car (renowned scamera van just outside Wales on M4)

That's it. Been driving/riding for 25 years (only had car licence for 10 years though)...so relatively I guess my 'record' isn't too blotted smile

2xSP30 at least 8 years ago for the more recent. both in cars - one im still pissed off about as i was getting overtaken at the time but the plod didnt see the other car? yeah right!
been driving 13 years & riding bikes 9 months. considering a normal crusing speed on a bike is about 3pts worth over the limt due to the stupidly low limits out of urban areas im kind of surprised ive managed over 20k on bikes already without a problem - guess my observation has improved.

Cautioned for driving on sidelights (in a well-lit area FFS rolleyes) 1981

Bald tyre, £15 fine 1982

MW10 (Articulated vehicle in outside lane of motorway) 1999, £40/60 and 3 points (late for a ferry, tanking down the M3 at 90+ with a trailer tent on (Pug 309TD); PC was most reasonable, only nicked me for the one offence!)

SP10 (Exceeding speed limit in goods vehicle) 2005, £60 and 3 points (I was overtaking some caravans up a hill in Cumbria, technically a 50 limit for the van but I had to do 80 to get past the caravans! biggrin)

Numerous bollockings for speeding, most recent in the car on the M18 when I was slowing down from a very naughty speed indeed biggrin
Once got pulled for doing 70 in a 30 at 3AM on a Sunday, driving a taxi. Well he didn't actually clock me doing 70, they only VASCARed me at 50 'cos I was pulling the handbrake through the roof once I saw them...
Once got stopped outside Hartlepool on the Katana by an officer who wanted to compliment me on my riding biggrin I've never lived that down in the pub...

LOL - You don't have to say leptons when you've been caught!

Driving since 1987, full motorbike licence since July last year, riding since August this year.

SP30 1988 FPN 3 points £40.00
SP30 1989 FPN 3 points £40.00

Thought I was going to get potted for due care as a result of my profile pics, but CPS didn't want to run it (a decision I had no influence in whatsoever - I'd been reported by TPTB at work).

Recently had to apply for my exemption at work as well in May and September this year - 55 in a 30 and 41 in a 30 (both fixed cameras that I was aware were live). The 55 in a 30 was touch and go for a little while, but the exemption was eventually agreed and signed off by the bosses. The 41 in a 30 was agreed straight away, but I'd had to write up the report with a lot more detail than I'd used first time around.

The 55/30 was on the way to multiple "intruders on", 41/30 was to get behind a drink driver (arrested, 3x over the limit).

See it's a lot easier for us, we just stump up the readieshehehehe
I had a "meeting without coffee" with the Operations Superintendent, to try and expalin why I should be allowed to claim my exemption.

If I'd have been stuck on, that would have been one I'd have run all the way.

I suppose we have all the piss takers to thank for thatyes
TBH, most ES workers that set the cameras off do so legitimately - it's such a hassle to try and claim the exemption, even when you've got a valid reason. Each camera activation is checked and QA'd by the senior management team. I know of people who've been done at work in works cars.

(I accept that there will always be the very few who do take the p1$$, but it's really not very many).

Am I the exception then!?!
30 years of undetected crime (both car AND bike) means I have an unblemished licence, I was totally pi55ed when we moved recently and I had to get one of those new fangled photocard licences too cool

3 points about 18 years ago showing off to my girl friend in my renault 4 van... oh yes, rock and roll. Overtook a car on a blind corner and didn't see the 30 sign. Policeman didn't see the funny side and booked me. Been stopped a couple of times since but got off with a massive bollocking for doing 'around 80mph' in a 30 (it was about 2am and I was pissed off... yes I know it was stupid, the policeman left me in no uncertainty about that) and got a warning for tear arsing out of a village because I thought the 3 series was racing me but he wasn't and his blue grill lights came on once we went past 80 (very nice guy though and cool video). Been a good boy since <angel>.

20 years since my car test and nearly 4 since my bike and no points at all in that time. I've only actually been pulled once by Police and that's cos they were bored.

I have to say I'm not anti-camera as its pretty easy to avoid problems once you know the locations. wink Obviously you can get unlucky with patrols but I think you are less likely to get caught doing anything now than you were 15-20 years ago...
