iv owned my helmet for 6ish years now and its seen me through many miles on the back of my dads bike and a year and a half buzzing around on my scooter. its a good shoei one (think thats how to spell it!) now iv bopught my JZR morgan Repica i wear it all the time so id like to know if i need to replace it or not! its got the od chip and scratch and has seen me through a 50mph tumble/slide. is there a set life of helmets? do i need a new one or will it still work like new or will the sun/rain/knocks have taken there toll?

Thanks

Helmets are rated 3 and 5 years respectively for plastic and composite ones. They are also 1 impact devices so go get yourself a new one.

I'm curious about the lifetime thing though. I have a Shoei which I bought about 6 years ago, used it for maybe 6 months, after which it's been sitting in a cupboard at home. SO no UV, no sweat, no petrol / oil, no impacts etc.

It's got to still be usable, surely?? But for that tiny doubt, I ended up buying a new helmet...
