I have a 10-15 minute ride to and from work each day, and probably (at the moment) manage an hour or so out "for fun" a couple of times a week.

I wear a Shoei XR-1000 helmet when riding. Should I be using ear plugs as well?

If so (and accepting that different plugs will be a different fit), where should I be buying them from? Any PH BB recommendations?

If I'm going more than about 10 miles I always wear plugs... just those soft roll-up things. Even though I can set the ST's screen so I can ride at 1.3kW/cm^3 with my visor up, my AGV S4's never quiet.

Keep thinking about getting those poured-in-situ plugs made, I'd still like to hear a pin drop when I'm old and grey(er) biggrin

maybe i tried the wrong plugs, but the only time i tried them it was like riding with a headcold. i had no sense of balance & felt disconnected from reality.

I've never worn ear plugs in over 40 years of riding and I still don't wear any now, even when I'm driving the Atom with the air intake right next to my left ear.

I actually have some hearing damage from riding bikes without ear plugs and I promise you, it's not fun!

I now wear ear plugs for every journey as I definitely don't want things to get worse. (It is not ever going to get better.)

I just use the normal soft yellow or orange foam plugs, but I use them for just about every journey. I bough a large box about two years ago at the NMF show and I’m now nearly out. Looks like I might be getting some more at the NEC!

If I remember the stats right, 30 mins at 70mph is enough for permanent hearing damage which falls to 7 mins at 110mph. Some lids are quieter, but my Arai's are definitely noisy so I wear them. I bought the last lot a box of 200 of so for 20 quid off ebay.

I always wear ear plugs. I have tinitus from too many raves and clubs in my youth so I don't want to make things worse.

I've tried loads. Some of them are too big. The ones I've settled on are

I just find it less tiring to ride with them.

Always wear them, always have. Apart from being told about the damage the noise COULD do....the noise of the bike scares me! Sounds much slower with plugs in!

I wear them for most journeys, though anything under 10-15 mins I usually won't bother.

I always wear them, I like music too much to risk it.

I dont wear them on the daily commute, but then I rarely get above 40.

I have a pair of made to measure earplugs that I had done at the NEC show a couple of years ago, well worth it.

I always wear them, it just cuts out lots of unnecessary noise and allows me to concentrate better, rode without them for 20 miles the other day and my ears were ringing, my Arai is a notoriously noisy lid though, it also sounded as if the bike was going to blow up!
