2007 R1 first service question
Discussion
i dropped mine in today for it's running in service. For the last 600 miles i could not take it above 6800 rpm which i stuck to. The shift light also warns you.
I'm on 590 miles and it's come out of the service with the shift light still flashing at the same rpm (even though the hand book says i can now take it to 8900 rpm).
My question is (before i start shouting at the dealers) does this light adjust it's self based on mileage or should the dealer have reset it?
Many thnaks-awesome bike by the nway, much easier to ride than my 2004 CBR 600rr.

I need to look into to this because I reset my own after the first service but its now reverted back to 7500rpm.
I can only assume thats to remind you to go service it again, as it now done 11,000 miles?
Never heard of that before.I can only assume thats to remind you to go service it again, as it now done 11,000 miles?

I might be considered a bit weired, but I have mine set to come on at 95mph in top gear.
I usually take no notice of it what so ever when pushing on, but consider it quite handy when on dual carriage way/motorway riding.
Light on, slow down a bit.

Thats not a bad idea. But that would mean setting it for about 8,000 rpm wouldnt it?
Doesnt that give you the shits when youre pressing on a bit at night? That little lights bloody blinding when its set wrong I find.

I have to admit it was a pain in the arse when I was in Germany, riding in the dark, but not as bad as the Black visor covered in flies.
At home it's very rare I'm on the bike when it's dark.
Right here goes: (caveat: these instructions are for a 2005 R1, i.e mine as I've just reset my shift light!)
You have two buttons on the side of the instruments: Select & Reset.
With the ignition off hold in the Select button and turn on the ignition keeping the Select button depressed.
After about 2-3 seconds you should see a series of squares in the right hand side display, this is your illumination light level which you can adjust according to the brightness you want by pressing the Reset button, then press the Select button to confirm your brightness choice.
After this you will then be prompted to set your shift light brightness by using the Reset button and then by pressing Select to confirm your choice.
Now you have the option of a solid shift light or a flashing shift light by pressing the Reset button to choose and the press Select to confirm.
This next step is now where you set the shift rpm.
Once you have set either the solid or flashing shift light the needle of the rev counter will go up to 7,000 rpm, you can now set the rpm by pressing the Reset button a few times to your desired level, the needle will increase in small increments (sp?) at a time and then press the Select button to confirm your choice.
Once you have done this the display should go back to the time and mileage and the rev counter needle will go back to zero.
If this doesn't work then a trip to the dealer to get it sorted is the best option, good luck
