Does anyone know if you can get 33hp restriction kits for these?

Restricted ECU from Suzuki.
Check http://forums.sv650.org bound to be someone with a spare, or one going cheap.

If you're buying the bike new i think suzuki will give you one for free, and exchange it when the time comes. (could be wrong though)

I belive that the SV650 makes a good restricted bike because it still has the grunt down low.

Thanks

Not for me you understand. My g/f has just passed her CBT and is already planning for next year. She's currently trying to weigh up the odds of DAS against the 33hp route

It does indeed. My SV came with a restrictor when I origionally bought it back in '99, but only stayed on for a short while. The newer EFi models also have a restrictor, but is easier to fit/remove as I understand it's a restrictor plugged into the ECU. The origional is different slides inside the carbs restricting the airflow.

it'd be ridiculous , and probably dangerous, trying to ride an sv650 which had been restricted like that!

an sv650 was my first bike, which I had bought before doing the cbt. I did the DAS, although it took me 3 tests to pass, I think it was a very good route to getting on big hp bikes, plus youre not risking your own bike while you learn.

If they were dangerous, then surely they wouldn't offer a restriction kit?

I fitted one to an SV650 a few years ago,it was just calibrated sized washers the engine side of the carbs.Still went fairly well ,it just went flat as a f**t as you hit 80/85

Why would you think it was ridiculous/dangerous? I'm guessing you're thinking it would be restricted in a different way to the way it is actually restricted? From what I gather it feels pretty similar up to higher revs (8k or so) and higher mph (top speed seems to vary - as it does on unrestricted SVs too - but around 100 seems to be the max).

P.s. nice plate!

A restriction in the inlet is going to affect breathing at the top end, the low end torque should be fine and the bike be quite rideable, you'll just short shift it more than you normally would. As a newbie rider I doubt this would be a problem.

She should under no circumstances get an SV650S they are a manly bike for manly men and no girls should be riding one.

I think I may have just over compensated there....

Don't worry ST, it'll be a little while before she goes down this road. She needs to get a bit of roadcraft in first on her 125. Hopefully by the time she gets round to it I can persuade her to do her DAS and get a proper bike.

If she's not already signed up www.bikegirl.co.uk forum has loads of info and first hand ladies experiences of restriction vs direct access.

Personally I'm doing direct access, first lesson on a 500 tomo, yay! biggrin
