I have just aquired a 1991 Gixer which at low revs (Idle)seems like it is firing on 2 pots. When the rev's are applied the problem goes away. The bike has been standing for the last year only covering 100 miles so I at first thought this could be down to a fuel issue and hoped after a few runs with new fuel it would clear. I have changed the plugs but this has made no change. does anyone have any other suggestions where the problem could be ?

Very easy to check for a spark, I presume this has been done.

The carbs could be out of balance, there could be some issue with the carbs gunked up also.

Try raising the idle and see how far you go before it clears.

That would be my first thought..post on the gixxer junkies website and you may get some more specialist advice about stripping them/what else to look for..

used to own a '91 Gixxer.

I'd go for gunked up carbs... and slight posibility of breaking down ignition wires but with modern fuel id go with the carb option first.

They will need stripping if the fuel has gone manky.

you can try additive as obviously its pretty cheap and if it works then smashing and you havent lost much if it doesnt.

But in all probablilty a year of virtually standing will leave the carbs looking like a beach inside. You'll be amazed what residue is left when the good stuff in fuel evaporates...
