Seriously thinking about chopping in the R1 for something smaller. I’m finding the R1 a bit too easy and uninvolving if i'm honest, preferring something which needs a bit more input. I also seem to be doing more trackdays each year and i find it a bit unwieldy, always worried about highsiding on exits. It’s fast as hell down the straights but anyone can go fast on a thou.

Has anybody dropped engine capacity and not regretted it?

Cheers guys, that just about sums up my feelings at the moment.

And yes a 750 is possibly on the cards, but the '08 R6 seems rather tempting at the moment.

Is the 08 R6 a new model?

Yes it is. Seems to be a lot of changes under the skin but only slight cosmetic tweaks. Variable intake stacks as per the latest R1, revised seating position/lower clip ons, revised shock and forks etc.

Could be tempted.

My brother in law actually has one. Akra can, PCIII, filter, knocking out 113bhp at the rear wheel.

I haven't ridden it yet but i think i'll give it a go. It seems pretty good on the track also.

What year is your R1 - mine is a 2007 which has fairly soft power delivery say compared to a gsxr 1000... Under hard riding its very involving, waving its bars and very sharp now its been setup...

Thats my problem, i'm caning it everywhere to feel 'involved'. 2 month ban this summer tells me it's not such a good idea anymore. Not that i'm expecting anything smaller to slow me down drastically, i'd just like to get the same feeling at slightly saner speeds. And hopefully more trackdays next year.

I really like them.

What are naked bikes like on the track?

I disliked the VTWIN's power delivery on the 1098 - if you want involvement then maybe the effortless grunt of a VTWIN isn't going to be for you!

I think that involvement (or lack of) is a personal thing as one of the main reasons I like V-twins is exactly because I think they are involving!

My first three bikes were V twins and i do like the power delivery.

I'm doing a bit of soul searching at the moment, trying to find what i want from a bike. Getting away from outright sports bikes altogether could be the answer. This may sound rediculous but there always seems to be pressure to perform on one. Daft i know.
