This may be a daft question but since they both cost allot for good ones, does anybody know if Motorcross boots actually offer better protection than race type boots?

I now ride a Triumph Tiger so either are fine. Because its a safety issue and I ride in all weathers, I just want the best protection available but having no experience of MotorX boots I need some advise.

Can anybody shed any light?

mx boots are a lot tougher and will generally be waterproof .race boots are not really designed to take
heavy impacts .have a look at sidi couriers they are a halfway between the 2 .

I have worn MX boots for 20 years. Race boots just feel flimsy in comparison. You safrice movement and they're not the best to walk around in, but that's a small price to pay.

For hacking through London every day, only MX boots boots are good enough if you smack your foot on a bumper.

Motorcross boots offer less feel of your controls than race boots. I've worn both commuting and prefer the race type boot. You can get good quality race boots that off good impact protection. In the end it comes down to what you prefer to wear and you won't really know that until you've tried both unless you have already.

I agree with whats been said here, they're different and you need to try them on to know what you really want. Personally I use Side Black Rain's which are okay, but I like the style of boots as they simply are "boots"! Good for walking or riding and with good protection: suits me. smile

Sidi Couriers are essentially Trials Boots with a steel toecap. The Sidi Zero's are "pukka" trials boots. The Trials boots offer better protection than the race boots and are a good compromise if you find the MX boots too stiff. I's recommend Gaerne boots or Hebo Tech 7's as they have Waterproof inner socks as well as being a waterproof boot.

Thanks for the help guys. I have Sidi Black rains myself at the moment but I just dont think they do anything much over protecting against scraping down the road.

I want something that will try to hold my ankle in place and offer maximum impact protection as well.

I am going to buy something at the NEC Bike show but I found a pair boots call Sidi Vertigo with Gortex lining last night on the net and they look like the best alternative to MX boots if I don't get on with them. Can't afford both types unfortunately.

I just bought a pair of ONEAL MX boots off Fleabay, they are sturdy as hell!I can actually stand up,lean right back and the boots keep me up lol, like thye're magnetised to the floor!Try that in your Sidis,MX boots definetly 'seem' to be sturdier and offer more protection.
