I was working at a Company last week and the boss had a Aprilla. Got talking to him being a fellow biker and he said that he had fitted a race style throttle. I didn't get it as he said that just a quarter twist was like 3/4 twist of a standard bike.
He said that it made it difficult to guage the amount of throttle around islands and bends and once had the rear hopping out due to it.

Is it me but why fit one if it is so on the edge. Surely a fistfull when you need it is enough!

Has anyone tried these throttle mods and are they worth it or just too twitchy? confused

I must admit that I'd prefer to have a bit less throttle travel.

I find that to get full throttle, I need to back off, reach forward a bit more, then crank it back on. I then can't return the throttle to rest without getting my wrist back on top of it...

Anyone else get this?

Yep I have to do this on my (very) old CBR6 - a bit annoying even with the throttle cables adjusted correctly.

You can buy a kit that consists of a new throttle housing and twist grip. The circumference of the inner part of the twist grip (where the cables fit) is bigger than standard, reducing the amount of travel from the throttle bodies to grip.

I've been drinking, so sorry if that isn't clear.

Quick Action throttle ... a bit of liability on the road but on the track they come into their own. My 10R race bike runs one ( as do most ) -- 1/8th of turn for 0-100% throttle -- takes some getting used to and I would never use one on the road just a little to full on imo. Some have variable sized cams internally so you select which you prefer.

I have a Quick-Action throttle on my 999s - its got a VERY quick cam in the housing (the quickest of 3 it came with) and a "handful" means just that!

The standard throttle is useless - too much action - mine has been on for nearly 2.5 years and I love it - its never been a problem.
