Keep thinkin I'd like to have a go at this. I've watched the videos on uTube, but think I might be tail-end charlie on a GS.

Am I mad for even thinking about it? Must be a hell of a legal(-ish) buzz.

Personally speaking, I wouldn't. Road rallies just seem like a recipe for disaster.

Having read the article this year, yes you're a little bit unhinged for even thinking about it.

I guess it is a bad idea, then. Thanks for the honesty.

I think that everyone who has posted negative comments here is mixing it up with the Gumball rally.

I know people who have done both the Cannonball and Furball runs in Atoms and they have never had any problems at all.

In fact the Atom driver in the Cannonball this year bumped into the Top Gear team as they were filming the Stelvio Pass episode recently broadcast and had a fantastic time.

If you want to do it then I would say to to go ahead do a bit more research about it if the incorrect advice given above bothers you.

Alternatively, you could do a little more research yourself, and realise that 1) this is the bike Cannonball, and 2)its not quite the same thing as the car Cannonball.

There's a lovely article in the December 06 issue of PB. There's a little sidebar on it:
PB said:
8 arrests
4 bikes impounded
109 tickets
€13238 in fines
6 crashes
2 broken bones
3230 miles
75 competitors
"its a rally, not a race". Doesnt seem to have sunk in.

Oops. getmecoat

Jumping from board to board as I drive and ride I had forgotten which one I was on.

Sounds like the Bike Cannonball is as daft as the Car Cannonball.

It's a pity there isn't any bike alternatives like the two car events I mentioned as they are much more civilized and friendly (and less costly).
