Ducati 1098S or Ducati 998S ??

I'm thinking of giving up the commute getting back on the train and selling the R1, but I still want something that floats my boat. I have thought about other bikes but as this bike will only be used when dry, unless caught out in a down pour, I want something that little bit special.

I know the 1098S is £14K and a mint 998S (if I can find one) will be about £8K, but there are some good deals out there for a 1098S including 0% finance over two years and a few previously owned examples for good money.

I am only considering these two bikes and nothing else so I'm opening it up to the learned members of Biker Banter for their thoughts on these two bikes and which one they would have as purely a weekend blaster and something to polish in the garage.......wink

If you must have Ducati, then go for the 1098, a real looker, and a better bike altogether than the 998.

The two bikes are 998S and 1098S. I have ridden a 999S and it was excellent but the 999 in all its guises doesn't even come into the equation....

You were to quick for me there, a typo on my behalf, I've ridden them all to, and the 1098 is the one I'd have.

Selling the R1?
Getting back on the train?

Have you gone completely mad? Do you need to talk to someone?

998S Last of the Motorcycle Pornography with all its faults ironed out.

Or the attempt at beating the above for Moto Porn with its new model faults?.

Go for the 998S

Nick, I know what your saying but after weighing up the annual cost of commuting on the R1 it's cheaper to come in by train. The R1 needs about £1,000 spending on it, (major service, tyres, chain & sprockets as it's just ticked over 38,000 miles for an 2005 bike) and of late there have been a few moments when other road users haven't seen me, but and it's a big but I will still have a bike hence my asking about a 998S or a 1098S and I'll be buying a 125cc scooter getmecoat to get to the station, otherwise it's a 30 minute walk to the station. I have found this 998S http://www.protwins.co.uk/used_bikes/used_916.html , the Biposto one not the Bostrom rep.

Check BikeTrader now, there is a couple on there!

I'd say 1098 if you have the choice. You'll always feel like a poorer slower relation on the 998!

1098 a poorer relation, again my opinion!

Andy,
Just having a laugh mate, I fully understand. I've felt the same thing of late, just too many wallies out there...the biggest being me obviously, but I just think it's only a matter of time, and just pray its a small/slow one.
I bet you'd be tempted off the train after a few months though!!
Can't really help you on the bike front, as for me the R1 is the only one that creates a stirring!!

That's one hell of a tough decision....frown

Heart says 998.....head says 1098.......then again....err.....

Actually, if your contemplating lashing 14k on a 1098.....I'd forget this train idea, and for the same money I'd buy the 998 as well as a nearly new Buell for the commute....wink

Looks very nice....but I'm not sure as I have a lead on a 996R and am also thinking about a 1098 with termis, not the S version....
