I work for a large company in London which has an underground car park for it's employees - excellent for the bike as it doesn't get wet if it rains.
I usually park my steed in a marked space and think nothing of it.
Today I got a note left for me on my bike which reads:

Could you please contact security with regards to parking your motorcycle in another position?
There maybe a space you could utilise as the car bays are of a premium now
Regards

*rant mode*
1] Why should the fact that I ride a bike make me any different to a car driver with regards to parking spaces?
2] I contacted security, and they asked if I could park 'in the far corner', the far corner in question is a fire escape - so that's a no then ..ffs
3] I usually come in early and get a 'premium' bay near the lifts. Anyone who comes in early can park near the lifts, it's no big deal really. If you come in later you have to walk up 6 steps. If you come in really late you have to walk up two flights of 6 steps. I know what they think I should do, they want me to park on the bottom floor of the car park where there's a small space not really big enough for cars. He could see I was ready for an argumant, so he said he'd talk to his boss.

I suppose I could park there, but I don't see why I should.
I await a call from the security manager. In the mean time I'm going to park it in a designated cycle bay tomorrow biggrin

Rent a wide american car for a day, leave a note on the windscreen saying, "Would you prefer me to park this or a bike in this space?"

My collegue had a good idea. Buy a tent, paint a picture of a car on the outside and park my bike inside the tent.

I bet some dozy car bint came in late, saw the bike in a car space and decided to blame you for the fact they couldn't get their arse out of bed and the parking guys have to follow up on it. They'll find somewhere for it where same car bint can't knock it over as he/she carries her pies to his/her desk wink

get them to build a proper bike bay, job done. I'm only a contractor so always just stash my motorbike in a corner somewhere out of the way

Had the same thing at work...

"Can you not park your bike in the parking spaces?"
"Why?"
"Because they're for cars and spaces are limited."
"Oh."
"Oh?"
"I'll just bring the car instead, then."
"Oh."
"Oh?"
"That doesn't really change anything."
"I know."

My Company solves the problem by only allowing certain senior execs to park their cars under our building.. so at most 5 or 6 cars, the rest of the parking space is for cyclists and motorcyclists/scooters only! So I get the privaledge of parking without hassle every day in dedicated underground security controled motorcycle only space. Can't knock that.

They do rent a number of car spaces in a neighbouring properties underground carpark though on a first come first served basis though since we're in the congestion charging zone I can't see these really being used by most employees, I certainly wouldn't be stupid enough to drive to central london let alone pay to do so. lol

I'm going to get slaughtered for this, but here goes:

Look at the big picture - your Co has parking spaces for X cars, plus a "small space" for one bike. They want you to park in the small space so that someone else can get their car in.

OK - you don't park in a Fire Exit: totally agree wth you. Completely right.

So, they want you to park on the bottom level and walk an extra 200 yards each way. Is this really such a big deal? You still get secure, covered, parking so do you really want to get into an argument with your employer on this?

Now, I would not be impressed that the person who left the note didn't sign it. Personally, I'd put a note on the ground in front of each and every car explaining that whoever put a note on my bike has committed the criminal offence of "tampering with a motor vehicle", that they did not have the guts to sign it and that if they want to discuss the situation in person they can come and see me at my desk any time they want: until and unless the offender has the courage and decency to talk to me in person I will disregard your discriminatory comments and continue to park where I wish.

That'll shut them up.

(the first part of the above if the "sensible" thing - the second part is "me on a rant too" part: where do you want to be?)

Glad Beulligan said that first. Totally agree. You already stated it's no big deal for others to walk up a few steps. Why not leave room for someone else?

rsv gone!

When the odd person complains about my bike in thecar park (usually just banter) I point out I'm just using my allocation; same as them in their diesel trucks.
