Speeding in Holland
Discussion
Be aware that on motorways, there are far, far more Gatsos than in the UK and mobile speed traps (which you don't spot until its too late - they're always behind bridge pillars etc. and the car or van the operate on is hidden at a fair distance from the camera) are frequent - 99% of those are placed where people are likely to speed so the operating police forces can reach their quota - part of their performance targets - as quickly as possible so they can return to more important work...
Be also advised, that if you get stopped and booked for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h in built-up areas or roadworks or 50 km/h on motorways, the officer has to take your license at the spot according to Dutch traffic law.
Police are about 100% likely to set up speed traps along the main routes to Assen when there's a major bike event there, too.

Do you know if the cameras can pick up bike number plates, plus if they can get them will i get a nice letter back home with the fine???
a) yupb) The Dutch justice office has a deal with most neighbouring countries in that they cash the fines us Dutch get from the German, Belgian, French police and vice versa... sdon't know if the UK is in that treaty already but if not, it won't be long...
Around GP time, its not worth speeding through Holland.
The cops are all over that main route (E232 I think it is). They set up in motorway services and either pull over every biker going past or round them up out on the motorway and herd you into the Services, whether there is a semi trailer set up to process your misdemeanour.
Its a pain in the arse too cause ideally, you'd try and knock the nasty bit of long flat motorway off quick smart.
Its not like Brussels to Calais where you can sit on 140mph for half hour at a time.

I almost got done in Holland a couple of years ago. Sitting at a steady 170 Leptons on the Autoroute I suddenly heard "Police, Police, Police" over the intercome from my fried a little way back. Turns out a Police Audi A8 had been trying to catch me for a good few miles after I shot past a turning and he came out after me. By the time he caught up I was doing a steady 70
