Triumph Sprint ST 1050
Discussion
spoke to a few people who have them and they love it. I shall be a 1050cc owner in march/Arpil with the speed triple and as for the engine goes. its juts great. took a test ride on a inline 4 gix, V-twin Superduke, so a varied range and found the 1050cc triple to feel great, lots of power, grunt and feels just great to ride.
can't say more than that

I've read a bundle of reviews fom when the ST 1050 first came out, and it was really rated. Now the "new" Sprint's been tweaked, the reviews aren't so great.
Or maybe that's just because time moves on - the 955 was probably great when it was new, but not so good compared to the "new" competition a couple of years later.
My mate's still taking the piss after seeing me sitting on one at the NEC "practising". W@anker.

I went in to buy a Sprint ST 1050 about a 2 months ago looking for a quick alround mile muching bike that was above all comfortable for long commutes. I was comming from a GSXR600 and wanted something more comfortable.
After test riding the Sprint and then a Tiger on the same day I bought a Tiger 1050. Both are great and quite different to ride. I liked the Sprint but its riding position was only slightly more comfortable than the GSXR. Intial reaction to the Tiger was no this riding position is wrong but within 5 minutes I was converted and placed an order.
Its all a mater of personal opinion of course and currently the Sprint offers more for your money with the luggage as standard but if you plan to keep it a while and do long hauls the Tiger is the way forward.
Ride them both is my advise.

I also nearly bought an Sprint 1050, went for a final test ride & then had a go on a Tiger ('cos another dealer had said how much fun they were) just to satisfy myself that I didn't want one.
I bought a Tiger as soon as I got back from the test ride!
Mate of mine sold his Sprint for a Tiger, loves it. Another mate, was seriously thinking about a Tiger also...not my bag, but they must be nice to ride.I bought a Tiger as soon as I got back from the test ride!
Depends what you will be using it for I guess. The Tiger seems to be getting a lot of praise but I found the Sprint more comfortable for the motorway journeys I do every day. I can also ride it for over 3 hours without any discomfort at all as the riding position and seat are just right for me. Everyone is different so maybe my body is just more suited to the Sprint.
It sounds like you can't go wrong with either so it comes down to personal preference. Pick a nice day then try them both. Then try them again. And again. Stop when it gets dark as the Sprint's main beam is useless.

I would suggest that all three bikes mentioned are good and that it’ll be down to personal choice. You really need to go and ride them all as what suits one person may not suit you. Small differences in weight, C. of G., height, power, torque, riding position or ride quality can make a big difference to individual riders.
Also, it’s good fun trying out different bikes and both Triumph and BMW dealers seem pretty good at arranging test rides. (Why not try some of the other models in each of the ranges while you're at it?)

Late to the party...
I had a Sprint 1050 for 2 years or so and 10000 miles, one of the first batch when it first came out. Lovely bike, comfortable for 1000mile day trips but the luggage was rubbish. It leaked, didn't close properly and was made of cardboard. The revised luggage was much better but could still be improved a little I guess. The deals just now with the luggage coming with the bike are good as that lot cost about £1000 before.
I tried a Tiger while my bike was in for a service and it was fun but a bit to tall for me as I could barely touch one set of toes on the ground. A lot of people who bought Sprints seem to have went to the new Tiger. I traded mine for a Speed Triple, which again has that lovely engine.
My mate had a 1200GS which again is a lovely bike. Get the test rides in. I know the Triumph dealers are usually good for that sort of stuff.

I looked at Triumph's before I bought my RT. I used to own a 955 which was a nice enough bike but was the most unreliable bike I have owned! Looking at both the Sprint and Tiger, they were nice enough bikes but the finish just felt a bit fragile. I'm really not sure how they would stand up to all year round riding in all weathers. The BMW by comparison feels like it is built out of granite and is just a brilliant bike. Its more expensive, but worth it.
Even looking at triumphs at the bike show they felt all plasticy and nasty...

We are very good at bashing british products over here for some reason, i've given up trying to get a fair comparison of a british product. I would try one for your self as i am in the flesh and on paper it should be great.Or maybe that's just because time moves on - the 955 was probably great when it was new, but not so good compared to the "new" competition a couple of years later.
