Hi guys!

My second post in this forum - I did my CBT a few weeks ago and have a lesson booked on the 500 for this weekend. I've also booked my theory test for next month. Two questions:

1. Can you reccommend any websites that give you a go at theory test questions for free? I've been a driver for years but I know there are bike specific things that can catch you out. Plus i'm not as current on the highway code as I should be wink I'm also to tight to buy a book.

2. My mate tells me that after Feb next year if I you take the full test you're limited to under 250cc for two years whatever your age. I've had a look at the sticky thread but can't find much about it, apart from the actual format of the test changing late next year. Any thoughts?

Many thanks - hopefully it won't be pouring it down this weekend like it has been recently!

just a thought but depending on what they supply you I would condsider buying yourself some decent gloves for riding at this time of year, maybe even some boots, it may make it far more comfortable, you'll notice the cold more on a 500 than you will on the chicken chaser you used on the cbt.

Highway code can be downloaded for free, as can mock theory tests (direct.gov should have links I think)
quote, "I'm also to tight to buy a book." how does that compare to the cost and hassle of a re-test?, can always be flogged on ebay afterwards, though someone here was lending a copy a while ago that seemed to be doing the rounds of the soon to be newbie bikers, so might be worth asking

not heard that before so I don't think, the current restriction is not off cc of the engine but the power that it produces, currently 33 bhp for those under 21 for two years after their test. aprillia rs250 has around 60 bhp can't see them increasing the power that you could have by changing to engine cc over power output

p.s if it is wet at weekend watchout for manhole covers, the result can be painfull if your cornering at the time

Try these, I'd highly recommend practising the hazard perception, the other part is common sense really, even the bike questions smile

I was going to do DAS but its so cold at the mo' an hour or 2 out is enough, except today, it was peeing it down but not as cold. Luckily I have the time to be able to bimble out for an hour a day. Had 3 hours so far, have another 7 hours before my test next friday.

Cheers Rach smile I'll have a go at those.

Yep, today was a write - off! Saturday's forecast looks better though.
Do you still work in the dental centre? I was there for a check up on monday - the dentist is mad as a hatter!

I travelled to Huntly to do my theory test, they have a mobile bus thing so you can choose dates to suit.
They have PC discs in MTL you can use to practise your hazard perception and theory test, theyre really good programmes too.

Did you see the big boss? He's ace. I'm back in work December.

Ed, I've not heard anything about such restrictions; would seem odd as I don't think there's anything like that in the new regs anyway.

Good luck with your training ppl. smile

You should get a guidelines DVD through the post at some point after booking the test. It does a good job of explaining the hazzard perception - what they expect you to do and how to score best.

I did the test last Wednesday. I had a spare day after returning from Ireland so my only prep was typing "Theory Test" into google and doing all the free ones that came up.

Suffering with man flu, 49 out of 50 Theory and I think I scored 58 out of 75 in the hazzard perception bit. Point being, relax, it is pretty straight forward.

I'll probably book the DAS course in the new year with the same school that I did the CBT. Too many other things eating spare cash at the moment, but I have a CG125 to practice practice pratice.

Sorry to be a pedant, but for the sake of accuracy, the new test ACTUALLY comes into force on the 29th September '08 as that's a Monday. smile

I got a Theory Test DVD. Questions are common sense, but the DVD was handy for the Hazard perception. It took me a couple of goes to really suss it out. My experience was to press it as soon as you see anything, and then click a few extra times just encase you were not in the window on the first click. Despite warnings that too many clicks result in a fail, I personally would stick to clicking as often as you see something, plus at least 1 other time on the approach.
