am i sad for loving some of these 60's / 70's classic lambretta

ive had quite a few powerful bikes but there is still a part of me that would love a nice restored one.

if restored properly with electric start etc are they reliable ?

are they dangeriously slow ?

there is a guy on ebay who refurbs them to what looks like a very high standard but it is vietnam

I personally love them smile

I have been looking into them for a while. The only problem I see with getting from Vietnam is the import tax. Also, you need to get the bike registered in the UK and I'm not sure how hard that is.

Here is a website for restored vespa's and lambretta's

There is a scooter shop in Colchester called Birtoni's that deals in old Lambretta's & Vespa's.

I've seen a couple of Vietnamise imported scooters........don't!
Scootering magazine has loads of ads or scootertrader.com.

I also own bikes & scooters & love them both, but you'll get shot down in flames on here for it rolleyes

To be honest it's not the scooters that annoy me it's the attitude of the majority of the riders.

Commuting in to work I come across maybe 1-2 courteous scooter riders out of about 20, whereas the bikes numbers are about 15-17 out of 20. quite frankly it's because for the majority of scooter riders it's just for commuting on whereas the majority of bikers it's for fun as well.

As a side note (couriers excluded) the scooter riders seem to be dominated by riders reminiscent of depressed lemmings who have lost their prozac prescription.

Riding attitude aside there is also the parking, you can tell most scooter riders couldn't give a rats backside about their steed by the bodywork, and how they ram the scooters in to almost non existent parking spaces.

Spot on mate. It's the attitude that causes the scooter rage. Bikers give each other room, they don't chop each other up, they don't hover in blind spots, they wait for one another at lights and so on. The London based scooter commuters don't do this in my experience, perhaps they're different elsewhere. If this was an infrequent experience, then fair enough I'd let it roll, but sadly it isn't and what's more it's not just my own bias, since many others report the same.

Steve.

My bike is quite wide (hard luggage) and when filtering I'll always try to let someone faster/thinner then me go past by moving over, bikes nearly always give a wave or nod, I've never ever had the same courtesy from a scooter rider soapbox

But in keeping with the subject, I think old restored scooters look the nuts! I hate the all new plastic brigade though hurl

That's the problem. I hate the plastic crap myself. When I said I owned scooters I meant the old variety. Unfortunately we get lumped in with them rolleyes

In my youth me and a few other greasy bikers used to have run-ins with the scooter Mods. It was great fun kicking them off round bends! But I am a reformed character now and very law abiding.
But I did have a secret......Even though I was on a orange Honda 550 super sports I did have a SX200 Lambretta in the garage that I loved to bits. Good job my mates didn't find out! Ha!

If I got a 1960's Lambretta or Vespa, it wouldnt be for commuting. It would only be brought out at weekends and driven carefully round town or down to the pub to show it off ;-)

I think they look the nuts with all the chrome front bars with the lights and wing mirrors.

There's a few of us going to a scooter rally in Stuttgart in June 08 if anyone fancies it. Mind you we have booked a week off to do it.
