not going to have a alarm fitted to my Triumph speed triple, Got a garage, ground anchor etc... only makes about £40 a year difference for a £250 alarm. So it it worth fitting A datatag or alpha dot thing to the bike??

if so what have people used in the past? and recommened/

thanks

Difficult to say. I have honda's smart water on the blade and have had datatag on a kawasaki and neither were stolen but that may be down to the fact that I always locked them up or down to luck. As it probably makes a bike less desirable to steal it seems like a reasonable precaution though, on the face of it I guess.

It's the same as any security device though I guess. Unless you can find evidence that someone's had a go at a chain and given up then all evidence for and against any measure is either opinion (unreliable) or statistical. More is more although nothing is better than making the bike physically impossible to take (unless it brings your premium down by more than it costs).

I’ve used Datatag on all my bikes for about the last 15 plus years. The bikes I have are generally not top of the ‘desirable to thieves’ list and I do live in a very low crime area, but none of them have been stolen!

Generally Datatag/AlphaDot give an insurance discount of between 5% and 10%, they don’t run your battery down, stop the bike from running at difficult times or annoy the neighbors like an alarm does and the don’t have to be ‘lugged around’ on the bike or make you fall over if you forget to remove it like a chain or disk lock does. For the cost as a once only fitment, with no on-going hastle, I think it’s worth it and would use either Datatag or AlphaDot on any of my bikes.

Get either for the insurance discount alphadot is easier then traditional datatag to do yourself for the same discount.
It won't for a second really make any difference to the thief when they want to take your bike, its the physical security that makes their lives harder. My gixer that got removed from my ownership one weekend that had alphadot standard was a prime example of this.
