As the title says; Oh bu&&er.

Pretty much immaculate 95 Triumph Trident Sprint which I have just started using for commuting...

30 mph limit, know the road well; off camber downhill right hander, early sign to warn you, already has shellgrip laid on the road surface.
Down to 15mph, off the brakes early, gentle throttle opening to balance the bike, lean in easy and... whoops!

Front brake lever, bar end and exhaust can all scuffed, engine cover nicely chamfered (but not leaking thankfully), right hand side of the fairing scraped and cracked and the front indicator completely trashed.

Also put a hole in the sleeve of a £300 Dainese jacket and bounced my £250 Shoei Syncrotec off the tarmac.

Investigation revealed the top surface of the shellgrip was just a sheet of ice as water flowing over it down the hill has frozen; not a trace of salt or grit.

Should have got the bus...

Sympathy please!

I'm sitting here soaking wet after going outside to pick my bike up which has just been blown onto its side by the wind. No idea of the damage, but I'm not happy. frown

Parked in the same spot for 7 years with no problems. Why now?

Yeah, it was the oil and horse crap that was hidden under the layer of ice that he mentioned. (sorry for the sarcasm, couldn't resist)

Sorry to hear about your off Rubin... especially as it seems you did everything as you should.

Sorry to hear your news. It’s a real pain when things conspire against you so that however much you try to avoid things going wrong, they still do!

I hope that the damage to the bike is easily sorted and that you’re back riding as soon as possible.

Not hurt much (well padded...) and the bike still runs, but thanks for the sympathy.

However, the next slap in the face is thirty quid for a replacement indicator.

Actually it is thirty quid for a pair of indicators; Triumph no longer make the original indicator (someone broke the mould apparently...) so they now give you two new style ones for the price of one.

Could have got a pattern one off ebay, but seen them before and oh boy, the quality is poor.

Guess I'll just have to change both and sell the remaining old one on ebay myself to cover part of the cost.

Hi, contact the local council and ask for their road clearing/salting policy and protocals, then ask for confirmation that on the day/time in question they had follwoed this to the letter. If not, which is very likely, have a little chat to them under the road traffic act, which clearly states they have a responsibility to ensure that the road is clear of hazzards and safe to drive on. None compliance on their part means you can claim for damages. might need a solicitors letter and a short trip to the small claims court. But in the first instance it only takes a letter so you have nothing to lose, well execpt the cost of sending a registered letter to the council.

No witness, so how do I prove it happened?

Anyway, not the type; Sh@t happens, get on with life.

Bike still runs; it gives me another excuse to spend time in the garage.

Helmet was 3 years old and well used; spurs me on to buy a new one.

Jacket only has a small hole; chicks dig battle scars...

You have that of course.

but what is worrying me is that part. I thought Dainese was suppossed to be top kit. A hole in a 15mph spill?
