My nephew has just bought his first 'proper' bike, a 2004 CBR600.
His best quote is £2,800 per year.
Is it any wonder young people are put off 2 wheels?

I paid £1500 Fc for my '56 CBR600F middle of last year. I was 24 with 0 NCB and 6 points, so i didn't really expect much better. Worst quote i got was nearly £5k. Dreading to think how much it'll be for my next bike frown

It is difficult to blame the insurers though. I remember what I was like at 20-ish, and being in genuine control of a supersport bike was probably not something I was capable of.

I know that they can't take into account that a particular 20 year old may be perfectly sensible, or have a long and distinguished history in schoolboy MX or junior roadracing. They are forced to tar everyone with the same brush.

surely whether its car or bike the age is going to make it very expensive especially in a city or town.

Try MCE Insurance, they've always managed to give me the best quotes.

Try insuring a car with any decent performance at that age and it'll be a hell of a lot more! I had a R6 as 19, insurance cost me £900 TFPF, now I'm 23 I've got a R1 and that was £250 for the year. No claims certainly helps.

My R6 @ 17 was £900 via Bennetts. Third Party only though, not even theft (which nearly doubled it,despite living in a very good postcode/area).
