Will it ever happen, large-scale and would you like a bike with 2wd?

Probably would have already happened if it was ever going to,and most likely with off road bikes rather than road bikes.

Yamaha developed a 2-wheel drive R1 a few years ago using the same technology. I would have thought it was more suited to the road bike since the front wheel on a dirt bike is often not making contact with the ground:

I cant see the point. Would the front suspension need a swinging arm if much power was being put to the wheel? Just seems like alot more weight and probably wouldn't help much anyway.

I have done quite a lot of sand riding/racing, at Dumont and Glamis, in California.
2WD would be a fantastic bonus, i would say, in sand.
I also rode trikes and quads there and the extra traction they give over a bike is immense.

From what was released to the press(or the press made up..) the 2WD R1 was supposedly quicker around a track as you could use more of the power, more of the time..However bike electronics have moved on since then and traction control wasnt in the equation...

I think with the more recent development in bike electronics we may not get it on a road bike but off road its got to be a bonus, if the weight penalty wasnt too bad..

Good point. Every time you add something, it's got to be worth the weight penalty and any drag on power.
