A unusual question here ... Does anyone know suppliers of old worn out motorbike tyres please?

These are not to be used on the road, they are to be cut up, but we need lots of them, about 50,000 a year ideally. We cannot use the steel radials though as these are difficult to cut.

I know that there is one main supplier in the UK, Maidman, who seem to have the monopoly, but if any of our US members have any ideas I would be grateful.

thanks,
al smile

in ignorance of their intended use would kart tyres be any good? probably won't get 50,000 a year but you might be able to persuade a few kart tracks that you could dispose of them

Funnily enough Garry, I was talking to StuB on Monday night and he suggested the very same!

Any ideas as to the best place to start? Although as you say, my first response was that I don't think there will be enough availability, but you never know smile

Most of us on this forum could probably manage a front and a couple of rears each by the end of the summer, how much are you offering and where should we send them? wink

try a post on uk karting, you should get some contact details off people there- if they're not too suspicious of you wanting to ebay them, (or there is a track listing setion).
I know many of the tracks have people dumping tyres after race weekends, there's a few tracks around yourkshire as well as the hire only tracks

Ditto that as well Al! Tockwith, Wombwell, PF & Fulbeck all fairly close to home.

Used tyres are a burden to the tyre trade and cost £1 ago to dispose of. Where are you based? i could give you a few places that would love you to take them FOC. What are they for?

We need to cut them into a continuous 1 inch wide strip, a bit like peeling an orange ... hence why they cannot be steel belted.

We would either do this here and ship the strips to the manufacturing plant in China, or ship the tyres out to China whole and get them cut there.
