Best top tip is practise your slow control; busy revs (fast tickover really, 1500 to 2000 rpm), slip the clutch and toes on the back brake (not ball of the foot).

Use it for the U turn, use it in slow moving traffic to avoid foot dabbing and in particular use it on the approach to give way junctions to give yourself more time for observations.

Down into first by the second hazard warning line back from the junction, come off the front brake to let your hand open the throttle slightly and only bring the clutch back out to the bite. Check right, left, right nice and early and you still have plenty of time to stop if needs be (don't leave your obs til the last moment, don't try and do lifesavers over your shoulder at give ways, don't go back onto the front brake).

And relax; remember that by the time you've done documents, eyesight, technical questions and radios, you're only on the road for 20 to 25 minutes.
Surely you can hold it together for 25 minutes?

GooD luck!

Your test is about lots of the little bits... but more importantly it is about giving the examiner confidence that you know how to ride and are confident.

I know quite a few mates that have failed on the little bits (somtimes blatantly) but because the examiner felt confident that the 'incidents' were not serious enough to fail they passed them... Similarly, I think I failed originally because I played it too safe, which was seen as a lack of confidence.

Advice for the U-Turn,do what you would do if you were going to fart on a hard plastic seat, lift up your right arse cheek and the bike will drive itself around, bike just falls over and starts turning!Check your mirrors all the time, gives instructor impression you're consciencous and aware of everything around you(mirror checks when slowing down for obstructions(Traffic lights etc),once you've turned into a new road etc .Emergency stop, they don't like seeing you covering controls before hand.Any majors changes in your road position(lane changes etc)remember your shoulder check.People have trouble remembering this but what i used to say to students when they couldn't remember this is,when i was walking along a pavement with them three a breast(two students on my right)I asked them what would i do if i wanted to go across to the outer of the people on my right,i wouldn't just cut across the middle person,i would have a look first to make him aware i was going to cross his path, and to see for myself it was clear to go across him, they seemed to get the point then. Also just what people have said before, get the low speed stuff sorted and everything else will fall into place!Good luck!

I'd say the test was the first hurdle and not the last. Please tell me you feel no sense of achievement by 'passing' the CBT and theory????

U turn practice and Indicators.
2 things that its soooo easy to fail on.
But the guys at the DSA arn't there to trip you up. The car guys are bastards, but the bike guys just want to make sure you're safe on the roads and confident in your riding.

Good luck!

Stalled twice on my test and still managed to pass.

I swapped bikes for the test - first time I had ever ridden the test bike - not a good idea.

Wouldnt like to have to do the U turn on my Buell it just doesnt have any steering lock
