Want to do a European Moto GP round on my bike but seriously worried about the comfort thing and storage, my plan at the mo is to ride from Oxford to Plymouth Ferry across to Satander, then ride to Catalunya, Barcelona for the Spanish round on the 08 June.

Anyone used their Duke for this? Was it a nightmare!

I'm doing Assen and luckily have friends that live reasonably close to the circuit so leaving my bike in their garage smile

I never took my Monster abroad, but I know about 3 guys that rode their Monsters all the way to Mugello in Italy and back for a long weekend to the Ducati festival...nuts

I've been a bit quiet here for a while . . .

I took my 996 to Europe two summers ago and it was amazing! I had Ventura luggage which doesn't look great but is an excellent system, in my view. I travelled from the Midlands to South of France, across to the West then back up again. I was away for a fortnight, had no aches or pains, the bike performed flawlessly (including 3 days on track at Ledenon circuit doing seven 30-min sessions on each of the days!), returned an average of 45 mpg (err - not on track though!) and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

As has been said before, you can tour on anything if you're up for it! Go for it I say!

Several years ago I did a trip down to Spain with a group of other bikers. It was a 18 day trip, taking 4 days to get to Northern Spain from Calais and 4 days to get back. The group consisted of the usual collection (at the time) of touring and sports touring bikes with BMW’s, some Pan Europeans and a ZZR1100. There was also a person on a Ducati 888 who everyone else thought would suffer terribly. We were very wrong!

He had no problems with the miles we were doing as most of the route was out of town (Thus his wrists/arms/shoulders didn’t suffer) and he was always the one who, having just travelled 250 to 300 miles would arrive at the hotel, leave his luggage, and go out for 50 to 100 mile blast. He certainly didn’t have any problems with touring on a Ducati.

French Moto GP and Le Mans 24hr on 1993 900ss. Absolutely fine.

Bordeaux and back plus a number of Le Mans 24hr, on 900ss on 1999 model.

1200ml in 3 days on Multistrada in France, including 480 miles in one go in bloody awful weather. Never missed a beat.

Can second the opinion on Ventura luggage, very good and very easy to use.

Not personally, but we had a 999 in our group last time we did an Alps tour. Never missed a beat in the week we were away. smile

It certainly attracted French pussy far more than the Jap bikes though........

How did he manage that? I went out for a 2-3 hour ride on saturday and only had room to carry my wallet, phone and some cigs and only found space for that lot if I left the tool kit at home smile

Don't know what would melt the visa card first... the underseat exhausts or the pressure from buying a new tuxedo every evening wink.

No idea, I thought he was mad. He's quite a big lad too. It was an organised ride with accommodation on the way, so only needed a tank bag, but even so....
I'm pretty sure it was there in back in about 10 days too. Nutter. Anyway, it didn't break down once, and he seemed to be able to walk OK when he got back. I used to have a 999R and was very happy for 90 or 100 mile tank range.

I took my 748 from London to Geneva via Chamonix a couple of years back. It wasn't too bad but I was glad of running out of petrol every 100 or so miles to stretch the legs - started getting cramp towards the end of the day but still did it pretty much in 1 hit....
