To counter my inability to read a map as I get another year older I convinced my wife to buy me a TomTom Rider (V2) for my birthday smile

I’ve just mounted it and wired it up and for once managed to sort out the Bluetooth link to the headset and phone without any trauma.

I’m taking it out for a test ride soon so will give a verdict.

Not sure about having the phone on Bluetooth whilst filtering through central London, but I’ll give it a try. Does anyone else use this or is it too distracting?

Another question; on all of the pictures I’ve seen of the Rider, it shows 4 screen icons at a time for easy operation with gloves on, but mine shows 6, the same as my car one. Is this normal or do I have to change a setting somewhere?

It’s not a huge issue because the last thing I want to be doing whist riding along with gloves on, is play with the screen.

Cheers

Paul

Ignore the icons question. Once the bike is moving it only shows 4 icons.

After taking for a quick spin into the town centre I love it smile

It has the familiar voice of Jane, the same as my Go300 in the car and the same display so it's easy to read. The Bluetooth headset gives clear audible signal at every speed I'll be doing and the speed camera warnngs are a welcome extra, especially now I've moved to an unfamiliar area.

You can't make calls whilst moving, which is probably a good thing. You can call whilst stationary though, then continue the call whilst riding and recieve calls whilst riding, but there's a simple end call or recieve call button (one in each top corner) that overlay the map display, so you can still see what's going on.

When you are on the phone you lose the voice directions, but the map is still there to show you where you're going.

The Bluetooth phone is clear at both ends. Still not sure if I'd want to chat to anyone in the City centre though. We'll see.

My only gripe is that when you access the 4 botton (in motion) menu, there's no way of getting rid of it. You have to wait for 20-30 seconds for it to clear automatically which could be a pain in the middle of a complex series of city centre junctions. Apart from that though it's perfect smile

One neat trick that I don't have on the car one is "add favourite". Just press the icon when you pass something of interest and it automatically saves it for you.

To anyone thinking of buying one I can highly recommend it. I've never had a bike sat-nav before so can't compare to others, but for me it does everything I could ask of it.
