Bike insurance
Discussion
Silly question, but when looking at bike insurance do you have to disclose claims you've had in the past with your car insurance? I ask because when looking it asked if "rider crashed into third party" etc (not driver)
I would have thought that i'd have to disclose, but are bike and car insurances seperate with regard to claims/incidents?
I'd be gratefull if someone could clarify this for me.
Cheers

Rip off bastids. I gave my details as stated on my licence and received a quote. I then told them my licence had been replaced and although I had one SP30 valid showing, two others were over 3 years old but less than 5 years and were no longer on my new licence.
It was my understanding that after 3 years SP30's were no longer valid, so why did they charge another £50?

3 years valid for totting up, 4 years on your licence for consideration in future convictions (habitual speeder, you It was my understanding that after 3 years SP30's were no longer valid, so why did they charge another £50?
) and five years for insurance purposes because they are all evil twunts. This is an interesting one though (and I work for insurance company!).
An insurer for a bike will want to know about all accidents/claims - on any type of vehicle - however will not accept your no claims bonus for your car as acceptable for your bike. They want it one way - but will not accept the other.
However when my Mrs called up for her first bike insurance - they accepted her no claims bonus from her car (we wrote and double checked this was the case) - and she ended up with a premium of £230 Fully Comp with me as a named rider - first bike, passed test 3 months! Same company as I am insured with as well!
They have you by the balls - I want to get myself a decent car in the next year or two - but have not had car insurance since Nov 2006. I have/had full (13 years) no claims bonus on a car - and without my no claims I will never get insured on a decent car. As I am sure you all know - no claims expires if no insurance for 18 months or 2 years depending on the company you get insured with.
I have called my broker, and also a couple of direct insurers and they have confirmed that my bike insurance will not count as being insured. So I have to buy a car (that I don't need) just to keep my inurance no claims.
As I say - they have you by the balls!
