Caught by the fuzz whilst getting it up!
Discussion
On valentines day, no less! A painful time to get caught by the fuzz.
Copper on his way home (Not in a marked car) followed me home last night after I did couple of wheelies. (That's the disadvantage to sticking to 30 limits, the cars keep up!)
Anyway, I got away lightly as he was off duty. He told me off and logged my number plate into their computer so if I get reported/stopped again, it will flag up that I'm a naughty boy and they are less likely to be nice to me.
What is there in this world that is fun but isn't either 1, Illegal. 2, Dangerous. 3, Bad for your health. 4, Too expensive to do. 5, All the above.
Drinking = evil
Speeding = evil
Smoking = evil
Drugs = evil
Sex = evil
Wheelies = evil
Am I the only one getting really fed up of working hard (apart from when on here!) 9-5.30 and then being seen as a heretic if I do anything remotely more interesting than watching "Reality" TV and doing DIY ?

No you're not trust me - I believe peoples civil liberties are being eroded away over time and the ability to have fun is fast disappearing under a cloud of health and safety, and worry over insurance claims etc...Its a sad trend, and one that has made me consider getting the hell out of here to somewhere that your freedom to have fun isnt so restricted.

Some acquaintances of mine moved out there a couple of year ago and they just find it boring. They can't wait to move back.
It looks a fantastic place to visit, with amazing scenery, but you wouldn't be living in the scenery. You'd be living in a smallish town, within the scenery.
I'm not saying you wouldn't love it (and my comments aren't particularly directed at NZ). You should just be aware that good holiday destinations don't necessarily equate to a good place to live.

Oh, totally agree, and hear what you're saying. BUT, I've met a nice NZ lady who one day wants to go back. I just thought that as i'm so p!ssed off withthis place, a new location, new job etc might be just what I need!It looks a fantastic place to visit, with amazing scenery, but you wouldn't be living in the scenery. Strictly speaking you're not in full control because if anything happens then you'll have to land the front wheel before doing any serious braking or turning... surely that much is obvious?
Yes it is obvious. Who said it wasn't? Although the location meant that unless a plane fell out of the sky, there was nothing that I could hit apart from a hedge. Sure, this would have been embarressing for me but I think the hedge would forgive me over time.Chilli, I've heard NZ is a bit too boring for people of working age. Was thinking about OZ but I hear that is abit crap too if you spend too long there.
Hopefully I'll travel the world for a year or so and then return to whichever country that I liked the most.
Cheers.

Yup, I totally agree it's getting to the point whereby the only "legal" thing to do is watch the crud on telly. Anything related to fun is usually illegal or regarded as anti-social these days.
However you can rest assured that being taxed up to the buffers and getting sod all back in terms of decent public services will remain a priority for the government.
It is getting to the point (or already has done) where law abiding, hard working people are becoming extremely hacked off with this country and feel forced to move to a new country to resolve the problem. You've got to admit this is very extreme but highlights how bad it is these days.
Me personally, I'm sticking my hand in my pocket this month and buying 2 wheels again. It's been a while but the daily car grind is just too much. I know the risks are higher but I'm going to die of boredom otherwise. As the only one decent line in the new Rambo 4 movie says, "Live for nothing but die for something". I'm going to try to avoid the dying bit however...
PS - I'm not going to start a "I'm new/returning to biking, what should I buy thread", you'll be pleased to know.
Thanks for the entertainment from all the threads on this site. It's certainly helped making the decision to move back to two wheels.

Hi Dern,
I can see why you think I was having a moan about that, but that's not what I meant. I understand that if you do something illegal, that’s your lookout. Same as speeding... Don't do it if you don't want the consequence.
My problem is that there is nothing fun to do that is legal, safe and affordable. So if you want to have fun, you're almost forced to be illegal. (Don't forget, 1mph above the speed limit still counts!)
I'm not hard up, I work, I pay my bills and after that I don't have enough cash to pay to do trackdays, dirt bike days or whatever to keep me entertained. That's what I have the problem with.
We're expected to be good little boys and girls who work and pay bills but don't have enough cash left over for the fun things in life.
All it would take would be to set aside an area (like an industrial estate) Pay a small joining fee that will cover ambulance cost and then be legally allowed to play.
It's like trackdays, I'd love to do these instead of speeding on the roads but tracks are too few and far between and the days are too expensive for me.

I'm not sure it's been any different though has it? I think there's just a higher chance of being caught or maybe there's a higher chance of someone complaining... don't know.
I'm surprised you think track days are expensive, I've always thought they're good value for bikes although I haven't done one. I've done car airfield days and they cost more but are well worth it. I guess it's a matter of perspective. I think if you hired a big area to do wheelies or whatever on then the cost would be more or less the same after paying for an ambulance and the profits of whoever wants to organise it unless you do it yourself. Going to do my first bike track day this year if I can grow a pair
I think most places will be the same for road based stuff unless the policing level is lower but certainly other countries have a lot more off-road stuff to offer than we have but I guess that comes down to geography more than anything.
Anyway, have a good weekend and I apologise if I came across in a way I didn't intend.
Regards,
Mark

As he was off duty he had no right to stop you, let alone do anything. Though if he had been on duty, it would have been a bit rich to whinge about being caught doing something naughty.
How did he stop you if he had no blues and twos? Did he show a warrant card and were there any other witness other than himself. If no, the you would have been well within your rights to tell him to Foxtrot Oscar and I would be making sure that there is nothing on any system that could incriminate you in the future. I would lay money that he was a Walter Mitty unless he showed you his warrant card. Did you get his name and badge number? Number plate? It may be worth ringing the local cop shop and say that someone has been impersonating a police officer. They take a very, very dim view of that.
Mind you, what harm a couple of good wheelies cause if there is no other traffic around I'm really not sure. Though if you pull them outside a school whilst the sixth form girls are hanging around then you deserve to have the book thrown at you. Even if it does get you a shag!

My brother in law got spotted doing a wheelie, last year by a retired copper.
Supposedly at 120mph
How they came to that conclusion, is anyone's guess.
Result...
A dangerous driving charge
12 month ban
50 hours community service
On a tag for 3 months
£450 fine.
This was his first offence...
I still can't believe it

No. he had very good barrister.
It's just that when it went to court, all sorts of witnesses came out of the woodwork ( who were supposedly there at the time )
Even the retired coppers wife was a witness...who definately wasn't there at the time
For the record...it happened in a village in Harrogate.
He was told if it had been Leeds or Bradford...it would have probably just been a fine
He had to be made an example of apparently
