Am going skiing and am thinking about ski wear as have chucked my old stuff out.

Query is I invested in a moneys load of nice warm Hein Gericke textiles a few months back. Could I/should I use them for skiiing?

I wouldn't, I'd find bike gear too heavy and in-flexible as it's designed for you sat on the bike. Plus it may not breathe as well as proper ski gear. Although you might get away with it if your textiles are light and have removeable armour?

Your best bet is to borrow what you don't have off a mate if you can? Or check out e bay or if you're going to buy new, TK MAX do loads of cheap ski gear about this time of year.

You can happily use you bike base layers / long johns / t shirts etc as they're the same anyways.

My mate uses his bike trousers [hg salopette style] all the time and they work fine. I reckon the jacket would probably work ok too. So as a budget option give it a go!

I was at Les Contamines today (fantastic weather!), on the way back down the hill remembering this post I had a look at the price of the cheapest ski jacket and trousers: 25 euros each in a destock factory shop.

50 euros or less than 40 quid is not exactly expensive - you could probably recoup most of this by selling it on ebay after the trip!

I wouldn't use my bike wear personally...

I used my Dainese textile clobber for a day on the pistes. It was fine. Nowt wrong with using it for another purpose, especially after having spanked so much money on it.

Gore tex and abrasion resistant. I found it far better than most of the rubbish fashion based cr*p that is modern ski gear.

Just wear it and don't worry about it. How exactly are you likely to damage it on snow?

Dainese stuff isn't exactly heavy and uncomfortable like the old waxed cotton rubbish we all had to put up with in the past.

I've used my HG suit for the past 3 years, it is easily as good as actual ski wear. Why go to extra expense for something you wear once or twice a year.
