Got on the R1 to go to work this morning, the gear linkage broke and the bike was stuck in 6th gear, managed to limp it home......jumped on the Ducati, got to work and the number plate bracket has broke off together with the number plate rolleyes I'm going to print out a number plate on excel and stick it to the back of the Ducati to get home and back into work tomorrow as I can't get the bits for the R1 before next week and a new number plate bracket won't be with me until next week either.......

If I were to get stopped by the police where would I stand??? the bike is taxed & insured (doesn't need an MOT yet), would I get fined or would they understand that the bracket has just broke and fallen off and I'm doing my best to get it rectified as quickly as possible?

Your thoughts please.

Hmmm. Possibly depends on what mood they are in but I wouls suspect a FPN and £30 fine with a rectification notice for the plate... worst case scenario.

If the whole bracket has fallen off how are you going to fix the "plate" on? I wouldn't bother with excel either, just use a thick black marker and a sheet of A4.

As hornetrider says. Dont forget that the C&U regs dont actually say the plate needs to be on the bike, so it can go on your back or rucksack as long as you stay on the bike smile

If you go to the effort of printing out a plate, they'll know you've had more than enough time to get it fixed properly.
I'd go for the folded A4 sheet and marker pen approach as well.
That way you can tell them it only just happened in the petrol station or something!

No plate is £30 fine only, no fpn, no points. Chances of getting pulled are very slim.

I thought a FPN was the £30 fine? As in Fixed Penalty Notice - £30. Much like a parking ticket?

Happy to be corrected mind.
