Just been to watch a car track day...zzzzzzzzzz
Discussion
We all like are fast toys but just went to the airfield at Abingdon and watched a few super cars using them properly (fair play to them for that), it looks so boring to watch, no overtakes I'd imagine a lot of them are not struggling to much due to traction control, hope one day they get to experience a road bike.
Must confess 911 GT3 looked lovely and Evo's grip was very impressive!

Did you go out in any of the cars? What appears dull from the sidelines is often edge of the seat stuff in the car.
When I take my car on track the fastest laps are those without any drama.
You can usually overtake with consent and after an hour so things settle down and the faster guys can usually make good progress.
I'd rather spend a day on track in my car than ride my bike on the road any day at amy time of year
I did a day at Brands in a mates Caterham a few weeks ago and that was the best of both worlds

Trouble is when you get expensive cars on track days, some owners hold everybody else up! As the cars are quite big it is important to overtake safely, so faster drivers sometime have to follow for a bit. Last time I went to Bruntingthorpe I was part of a 10 car convoy stuck behind an RX7 (I think)... The driver was booting it in the straights, getting away from everyone, but then taking every corner really slowly...

It has a "99" R1 engine in it, and it's bloody quick. It blew a head gasket last time out, so he's hoping for better luck this time.
A serious looking piece of kit, and road legal too by the look of it It has a "99" R1 engine in it, and it's bloody quick. It blew a head gasket last time out, so he's hoping for better luck this time.

That'd see off off some much more expensive machinery, and a few bikes
I'd vote for a car track day any time. In a car you can push to, and past, the absolute limits on a track. When you go past it's almost always a matter of a bit of grasstracking or scooping some gravel out of the grill and carrying on to the next session. Rarely any damage to car or driver.
If you go past the limits on a bike it usually hurts a bit and requires some degree of rebuilding and expense (at best) so most riders don't actually get to thier limits.

I have to agree track days are more fun in the Griff than they are on the Gixer.Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
