Has much changed??
Discussion
I last had a bike 4-5 years ago. A Blade and a ZX6RR, they were just track day bikes and as I live in Herts I mostly did Brands, Snett and Doni`. Now I`m thinking about getting another but there doesn`t seem to be as many trackday organisers around. I used 100% Bikes, amongst others. Noise was starting to be an issue. Do most guys trailer their bikes or ride to the track? What`s the state of play now with the trackday scene??
Still lots of days, have a look on www.racedays.co.uk I always hire a van £46 for the day. If you ride hard you wont relish the ride home & what if you do fall off? You can get all you need in a van to look after your bike & kit. It also doubles as a changing room / bedroom if you fancy a kip at lunch. Absolutely invaluable if it rains!!!
No Limits will even hire you an old R6 Cup bike for a couple of hundred quid. If you do the maths it works out much cheeper than owning a track bike & hiring vans, buyng tyres etc.

Cheers Steve. Current plan is a Speed Triple/Monster (done the sport bike bit)and trailer. I towed the bikes last time I did track days. I agree, riding the bike to and from the track is a pain. Is noise an issue?? It certainly was at Doni`. There we were at briefing being told about noise levels and a bloody great plane going overhead.....what a nonsense!!!
Noise can be a problem if you have non standard pipes. At Donni the meter is on the dunlop straight so you can throttle off if absolutely needed. At the track they have a guy who will drill the underside of your can & slip in a little baffle secured at the end by a self tapping screw. Once this is in you're OK. I used to take a standard can in the van just in case. I've got Termi's on my 1098 & they came with the slip in baffles. They might be more common now?
If you've got a few quid it's worth scouring ebay for a set of spare wheels to put wets on. If you've never ridden wets the level of grip 'll blow your mind & possibly avert an expensive fall following a silly slide in the wet. Let's face it there's a 50% chance of rain when ever in the UK at present.
A set of second hand tyre warmers is worth it as you can just plug them in in the garages. Tyres & suspension are everything.
If you do a lot of track days I think a few quid well spent can save a lot of hassle & money in the long run.
If you haven't done them you've got to try Oulton it's awesome, blind sumits & double apexes etc. & the remodelled Anglesey circuit is beautiful. It realy is like Philip Island on a sunny day.

Missed the Monster option in your reply. I've tracked a monster & they're great fun they even had their own series. It's fun taking sports bikes on one of these. So satisfying & easier to ride in the rain. I put flat renthals on mine. Loads of fun.Mind you I've always fancied a tripple! Have fun!!!!!!!!!
