1st Ride out, mate fell off, great start!
Discussion
..So there we were (me on my R1, my mate on his ZX6 B1H) on our way to meet John (Bikers nemesis on here) when my mate falls off a mile into the journey. Too much lean on cold tyres equals expense. Poor soul finished with his girlfriend of 4 years on wed to get some time back to himself and get into biking properly, what luck.
Anyone on here had any early season nightmares?!
To top it off we get home and I find my nose cone which was bought brand new 2years ago (to get rid of the stonechipped one) and was perfect last night, has weird horizontal lines of bubbles on the inside and out. I'll have to take it back tommorrow but, not expecting much joy.
Sorry for the long post, but thought I'd share the details of a not very good days biking.
P.S. Bikers Nemesis, if you read this before I speak to you again, sos again for the no show. Will be out again soon, my mate'll be on one of mine, riding somewhat more carefully.

sorry to here that..no early season problems yet for me, i ride the DRZ400 all year round but i've not been out on the blade yet as the road (although looks dry) is still very cold and covered in salt and very slippy even when dry
hope your mate gets his bike sorted ok in time for summer

Hi Mark.
Bad news about your mate, hope he's OK, doesn't take much for it all to go tits up at this time of year.
There were a couple of lads that I know at Rothbury, one of them was talking to you at the side of the road, (Howard) he was riding a 600 cc trail bike thingy.
Looks like I'm off to Norfolk next Sunday, to meet up with Shot2bits and his mates.
Fancy it?
I should be out Sat too.

Evenin' lads,
Cheers for the kind words, I'll pass them on. Mates OK and will fix the bike asap, bit of a state considering the relatively low speed 40-50mph(wrecked back wheel, burst tyre, snapped off swingarm bobbin inc. lug. coolant leak, plus the obligatory mirror, foot rest, lever, etc. Oh, and did I mention the dented pride.
Alright John, NORFOLK!!, yee mad?! You riding down, trackday or road?
To be honest I'll be out an' about but today has put me off a bit so will be more local I would think. I'll give you a text if I'm out next Sat, I'll see what happens with my top fairing, it's off the bike now.
That Howard was a sound lad. I sent my mate back home on mine to get his van an' that Howard pulled up checking we were OK. He even hung round and helped load it onto the van, top bloke. He said he knew you and would say he'd bumped into us. We owe him a beer!!

I'm on my SuperMoto all year round and seems to be fine. Don't think I'd be too clever on a sports bike hope your mate gets his bike sorted ok in time for summer

Early season??
I did notice that this weekend there was an increased number of cocks on sports bikes around. Got passed by one guy who I reckon was doing 70 odd in a 30, t

Hate the time of year when all the weekend warriors and ride 5 miles to nearest 'meet' come out...

I'll pass on your on your thanks to Howard. I usually see him most weekends, he has an R6 for the track, and a K1 GSXR 1000, with nearly 60k on the clock. He also has a brother who uses this site and drives a TVR.
Lets hope this weekend starts off a little better.

What's wrong with using your bike at the weekends?
Weekend warriors, I suspect most of the bikers on here use their bikes at the weekend, or during the summer months.
Nice attitude. Feel free to put a post up on here if you ever come off you bike.
Instructing on Saturday and took my first student (back to biking after a long layoff) down the East Lothian coast road.
Passed by a brand spanking Blackbird doing about three million and eight on the straight, only to catch him up again going into the twisty bit where he was riding like a granny on a moped.
Sat with him for the next three miles until the next long straight where he took it all the way up to eleven again and disapeared over the horizon.
I suspect my student might even have "done him" if we had been on something sharper than CBF500's!
If I was that 'Bird owner I would hang my head in shame...

Absolutely nothing wrong with using bikes just at weekends. But it's always when the weather picks up that you see an increased number of people doing frankly idiotic things! That annoys me as it tars everyone with the same brush and just adds to the overall perception that all bikers ride around with no respect for speed limits or law. I used to live pretty close to one of the big bike meet cafes in the south. In the summer the road passed it became a bloody no go zone because idiots were hacking from one roundabout to the next. Police turn up, local rag has stories about bikers being irresponsible etc etc. What's wrong with using your bike at the weekends?

Everyone should have fun, but do at the right time. For what its worth a few mates have commented over the weekend about exactly the same thing. during the summer I use the bike for work only, never really comes out at the weekend cos of most the idiots on the road...
Sure its not popular but it seems pretty close to reality round here.

Maybe he didn't want to do what the friend of the OP did Passed by a brand spanking Blackbird doing about three million and eight on the straight, only to catch him up again going into the twisty bit where he was riding like a granny on a moped.

In the past I've commented on the "born again's" throwing themselves into the scenery, and ignoring 30mph limits, All of which has seen an increased Police presence in my area.
I didnt mean anything insulting - it's just not a great time to be on bikes at weekends round here!
The thing that really irritates me more is that if more people used bikes all year round then the government etc may see them as a valid source of everyday transport. At the moment bikes are seen as toys and policed as such. The more people that use bikes as valid transport options the better. It would also lead to less accidents as people don't get rusty and a winters riding certainly improves the rider in the summer. I did read the average bike does about 4000 miles a year - thats mad, surely they are bought to be used!?

I'm with you on the rusty thing - and the weekend frighteners. I've done 16,000 miles in the last year on holiday, commuting and weekend blats and if i go even a couple of days not on the bike, i feel rusty when back on it. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to do 4k a year, and scream around like the bikes i see about at the weekend. Of course, i have no idea about the ability of these guys, but if the average rider does 4k a year (OK, reading into the stats a bit) how much of that screaming is ability, and how much is weekend "Wheeeee - i'm out on a bike!" madness?
We all enjoy bikes, and i do a lot of miles, but they still svare the bejesus out of me.

Whoa!!, just got back in after popping out for a bite to eat, some pretty strong views there.
Just for the record, not that I should have to justify how I choose to use my bike. I'm 30 and have been riding since 23, always on sports bikes and always in the summer. To me the enjoyment comes from getting on the bike and stringing my favourite set of bends together, not from tiptoe-ing round in freezing conditions. I am lucky enough to have a car for the winter (although I sit in more traffic etc.) hence use my bike in the summer only.
I take biking seriously and wherever possible try to show respect and a friendlier side of biking to pedestrians and other road users. I'm not Rossi but can keep up with most people I go out with. I'm not though, a straightline hero and very rarely even gas it on a straight road, my dad brought me up telling me "any idiot can go fast in a straight line". As for tearing through 30 zones the same applies.
My friend (28) bought his bike almost 2yrs ago (1st bike) but has hardly used it due to a house purchase and renovation. He's been dying for the spring, to get into it properly. He has the same views as me, hates chavvers, hooligans and anyone else who spoils things for other people. He came off following me on cold tyres, yes, probably due to his inexperience but we all have to learn, sometimes the hard way.
We use our bikes in the better weather as we work bloody hard to buy + run them, so why watch them deteriorate due to salt etc, when you can buy a cheap car to use.
All year bikers, I take my hat off to you but, its not for me. Just don't try and make out my friend or me are more money than skill, straight-line, hooligans or anything else like that. (I know some of those weren't said here but are usually said in the same sentence).
I am as passionate about biking as the next bloke, I just keep schtum and live and let live.

I have 2 bikes, one which does in the region of 15000 miles a year, and thats all year, the other does whatever i choose to do on it, when i like and how i like. Unfortunately if people choose to ride like t
ts then that will attract attention from the old bill, just like idiots posting stupid riding on you tube etc will. I don't think that because someone chooses to not want to get their lovely new sports bike covered in s
t and salt means they aren't a true biker.. you will always ger w
rs who spoil things for others and attract attention, like most people with loud pipes, small plates etc. And then they wonder why coppers hang around, well i know that where i live there have been reports to the police because of the noise of certain bikes flying through the 30, it they were on standard pipes i bet that would never have happened.

I was just worried me and my mate had been put into this category and wanted to explain that we aren't knackers and weren't going daft. He fell off going round a very large roundabout near where we live. Our bikes are standard apart from sensible mods like braided brake lines, steering dampers etc.
No offence to anyone, I've only recently started using this forum and thinks its great, and I know if you post a thread up you should be able to take any responses on the chin.
I just don't like presumtion or being pigeon-holed on the basis of a snippet of information.
