Make sure it's got some wheels!!!!! You need wheels!!...

I am no expert, but HPI, Check milage againt conditon of bike, brakes, smoothness of gears, drives in a straight line, noises (funny ones, not laughter). As i read on another post you dont want it to have been raced & then put back together.. In an ideal world you would have a mechanic, or a freind who is half a mechanic to come with you... But unfortunatly we dont live in an ideal world!

And good choice on the R6, I have one and I love it!! Whats the bike you currently have for trade?

Trading up from an SV650 Sport.

Seen a couple of bikes I like so hoping to do the deal next week.

Insurance is far cheaper on an R6 than any other super sport 600 for me. Very strange but I'm not going to argue.

I guess it will be a very different experience from a V-twin ? Swapping torque for ridiculous rev'iness !

Funny, I wondered why R6 insurance was surprisingly low...compared to ZX6R - I put it down to the R6 being used and the ZX6R quote was based on a new bike (so I assume its worth 3 times as much therefore explaining huge premium)

Anyway back to the original question. Crash damage and signs of race use. Check the sump plug and ensure its not been drilled. Ask the seller to remove lower fairings and check it all out behind there for signs of road rash, it is easy and cheap to replace pegs and bar ends and brakelevers etc but engine case damage sometimes gets left if it is cosmetic.

Other than that as per above really. HPI it, make sure it drives straight etc. Full service history if it is a newer model.

You have some comeback if buying from a dealer under the sale of goods act 1992, as well as any warranty or guarantee provided by the dealer, third party company or the HPI check.

Pay on your credit card too if you can. Additional protection purchasing in that method if you can.

Quote was on a 2007 R6 and ZX6R. Both same value etc. Not idea why the huge difference but I'm not going to argue.

Looking to buy from a dealer as like you mention it should afford me extra protection. Bike is a 2007/07 model which has only done just over 1000.

What alarms do people recommend ?

Cheers
