cry doesn't even begin to cover it. I've got my DAS booked up smile to start the day after my theory test so that's great news. Unfortunately, to take biking any further I've now got to sell my pride and joy, my much loved Lotus:

I thought I was upset when I let both my Caterhams go, but man, I didn't feel anywhere near as bad then as I do now. I really, really cannot believe I'm doing this.

I know that ultimately, I'll get my bike licence and get onto a sports bike that I'll love, such as a GSX-R600, going via something slightly more sensible to begin with. I just wish I didn't have to do this in the meantime!

I used to run one of these (111S):

Believe me, once you pass your DAS and jump onto a GSXR, you won't regret it biggrin
The sensations you get from a car as brilliant as an Elise is nothing compared to a bike!

Gents, the thrill of riding, the speed, etc will make your car experiences seem boring! Trust me.
I hope it works out to be the right move for ya though!

Well, that's quick. Some of you might know that the French are mad on Lotus cars and as such, I have a French sports car dealer coming to visit me tomorrow evening!

We have discussed the price and he is happy to leave a deposit to secure the car, then come back to pick the car up with the remaining funds. He apparently deals in/collects British sports cars, but they can only import certain types, of which mine is one.

I had never imagined that it could sell so quick. Might not even get a chance to drive it again frownweeping

Before I sold it a day before, I actually did quite a few doughnuts and drifted around every roundabout for most of the day biggrin

Good luck with the dealer visit. Once thats done, an exciting journey/experience awaits! Just go for the GSX-R600 - you know you want to...!

You are a bad man biggrin

I can't and won't do that, the chap is a collector and Lotus enthusiast, exactly the sort of person I want to buy the car. I will be very happy to see it go to a loving home smile but just sad to see it go frown

I am lucky in that the cars I have had have been st. However, am looking to sve up and buy a car in addition to the bike. How much were the running costs on the elise if you don't mind me asking?

A lot, although you can run them cheaply. I didn't, I maintained it regardless of expense as mine is such a low mileage, cossetted car. I spent loads on upgrades (I reckon at least 2k over a year and a half period) and servicing was probably about £1500 over the time. Decent tyres (Yokohamas) will come in at around £400 a set. Mine's a Sport 160, which is more highly strung than the standard model and the servicing schedules are slightly different.

If you look at Rawr's 340R, it's even more expensive as you have to remove even more glassfibre panels to do anything.

They are now getting to be cars that are affordable to people who may not really be able to afford to run them properly. Just MHO...

That is almost spot on.

I have the commuter, have a semi-fast bike (will upgrade the GSXR600 next year), getting the comfy car this year, however I am also going to keep a cheap run-around station/shopping/general a to b stter of a car as well.
