Is this a scam, looking at buying a bike advertised on here and recieved the following reply!!!

Hi again,

I would like to use a shipping company for this deal, the process is very easy and I have just bought a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee and this is why I know how it works.
This company will handle the delivery of the bike and also they will handle all the registration papers. If we will use it you will have 5 days to inspect the bike before you decide to buy it.
I will pay delivery! The delivery time will be arround 3-4 days and the bike will be delivered at your home address. In this time you will receive the tracking number of the transaction so you can use it to check the status on the company website.
Let me explain you the whole proccess:
First I will need your details, full name and address. As soon as I get the info from you I will take the bike and go to the shipping company to transfer it in their custody. I will pay all the shipping charges. After the bike is in their custody they will send you a confirmation and also payment instructions. They work as a third party service and will hold the payment during the 5 days period for inspection. After the payment is confirmed to them, they will get the bike to your home address and will also give you the documents of registration and the bike will be left in your custody, in this period you can inspect the bike, take it to a service for inspection and drive test it. After the 5 days period is over the shipping company will come to you and if you decided to keep the bike you will transfer the documents on your name and after the bike is registered on your name they will release the payment to me. If you decide not to buy the bike they will get the bike back and will send you a full refund of the payment.
Please e-mail me with your decision and also your full name and address!!

Thanks

John

Do you honestly have to ask if this is a scam? wink

I showed it to my fifteen year old daughter and she said "That's a scam; he's gonna get ripped of bigstyle on that one."

What kind of bike is it to make you even consider this kind of deal anyway?

Actually I've seen this guy on ebay a couple of times; bikes are always photo'd against the same wall and he is a trader.
Can't remember what his feedback was like, but he's had all sorts; crash repairables, 80's sportsbikes, even a nearly new Ducati with something daft like 25 miles on it.

Perhaps or maybe someone has just stolen his advert photos (that happens a lot). That bike is at least half price unless it's smashed up. Even a crash repaired track bike would be worth more. If it's genuine I'll have it!

YES.......Its a scam. they try to get you to pay by Escrow or other dodgy methods.... moneygram etc...

You will loose a st load of money and never get the item you pay for...

If its too good to be true it usually is!

It does look like a scam, having said that untill you find out what company he wants to use to hold the money untill you accept the purchase you don't know. If it is a company like escrow then you can then it is probebly legit and the guy is being over cautious.

ive seen him on Ebay as well judging by those photos i would say someone else has ripped them off and is pretending to sell one of his bikes.
i had it happen to me a couple of years back luckily a genuine bidder on my bike pointed it out to me and i informed Ebay, the auctions were even running at the same time!! except his version of my bike was about half of what it was worth.
