I currently have a Suzuki GSXR-600 XK5 but I am looking to downgrade [imminent house purchase] and I've been offered a Suzuki GSXR-600 K3 in a P/X deal inc. cash my way.

I originally wanted sell mine to buy a cheap R6 [around 2000/2001 model] or ZX6-R [J1/2] but this GSX-R sounds like a very nice one [2003 model, 6000 miles etc.]. I must admit I¡¦ve not a fan of the K3¡¦s looks [I don¡¦t like the bulbous front head light in comparison to the Kawasaki and Yamaha Alternatively]. However, I don¡¦t need to look at it whilst I¡¦m riding it.

Anyway ... down to the point of the post. Are the K3 GSXR¡¦s any good? Will it feel crap after the K5? [I realise the K3 to K4 switch was a major model revision]

[I¡¦m a sunny weekend and evening fast road rider with the odd track day inc. a European tour in July]

Cheers ļ

I've you're going to downgrade then look at the Honda 600RR instead. Best of that vintage by most accounts.

Incidentally, I wouldn't have thought you'd liberate much money in that change.

Try the K3 600. It'll probably feel a bit softer than the K5 but this could well make it a better road bike. I had a K1 and it was comfortable and stable, with a sweet gearbox.

I've not ridden both but I had a K3 600. It was a great bike and handled fantastically well, I had a switchable TRE mod on mine which made the lower gears much more responsive. I did two and a bit years riding this bike for commuting and fun with a 2 week trip into europe. Only reason I changed.. it got nicked frown
Not sure what the K5 is like but the side stand wasn't brilliant on the K3.. any forward movement/weight would have the bike falling forward off the stand.
They are quite wide round the tank compared to the newer models or other bikes I've owned. Obviously owning a K5 you're already used to the sporty riding position and std steering damper. Those couple of things that made it that much more extreme than any other bike I've owned ever.
