HELP!! I seem to have lost all confidence riding my bike. It's now at the point that where I get nervous getting on the bluming thing. I passed my DAS last year and what a ball I had doing it, bought mysself a bike, fell off it and since then I have no confidence. When I do go out I'm fine after about 15 minutes but it's getting harder and harder to get on it. I'm looking for some words of wisedom from you all as this is something I truely enjoy doing.

Hi Caroline -

Do you still have access to the school who taught you and are they on the register of post trainers? It might be worth having a little bit of time with them, if you found them good when you did your DAS.

Alternatively, I'd suggest finding a group of other people to ride with.

Hope you don't get disheartened!

What he said.

After a 6 month absence from riding a bike when I passed my DAS last October, I was a wee bit apprehensive jumping on a bike again so booked a refresher course with the school I learned with and went out on a bike for 2 hours - best £50 I spent as I might have done something really silly when collected my GSXR6 last Sunday.

Can only agree with the 3 P's, practise, practise, practise! I've been having confidence issues after a not-moving-fall-off then a slow speed spill on a corner, I've been riding out with a couple of guys from the local club and joining in the big ride outs with the club.
Today I had my bike lowered even more (!) and feel even more confident, went for a ride on my own and was defo using the brakes less and less.
I'm going out for an adventure tomo, I'll take my camera biggrin

Do you have a local club? Get chatting to people, I ask most of my patients if they have a bike and arrange trips out and get numbers in case I get away from home and panic or fall off again.
Even going to the bike shop today I got chatting to 3 new people!

Best of luck hun, keep at it, there aren't enough ladies on bikes out there smile

Well, since the weather is so nice, I am going to go out for a run. Just have to wait for the hubby to get back as he's on my bike. He's ridden it more times than I have. I am pathetic!

Most of my friends have bikes so there is no real issue there. Went round Loch Lomond last year with a big group of guys and it was a blast. I didn't like the feeling that I was holding them all back because I'm still learning. Your right though, just need lots of practice and stop letting my nerves getting the better of me.

Don't worry about holding people back, I'm so slow on the runs but I know at least 2 people will stay with me, those who want to go fast will do and always wait up the road. You stick to your pace biggrin

most people won't get on a bike in the first place, so don't think that you're pathetic.

what bike have you actually got?

Hubby is now back so off out for a run. I've got a 2007 Bandit 650. Got to say, I'm actually looking forward to it.

Having an off does affect your confidence, but if you get out there it will come back. smile Having someone to ride with will definitely help too, just don't feel you have to ride like a demon to catch up, take things at your own pace.
