I have the K1200S and think it's a great bike. The engine is excellent and will pull top gear from 30mph to extremely fast with no hesitation. Brakes are superb due to servo assistance and ABS gives that little bit of wet weather security ‘just in case’ you over do things. Fuel economy is great with a pretty consistent 45mpg and comfort is spot on with the ESA being superb. (I did wonder if it would turn out to be just a gimmick but I’m a total convert now.)

If I have any criticisms then they are that the bike is a little heavy and is a little on the ‘bland’ side. (Very German- incredibly efficient but not a huge amount of fun at a party!) These criticisms are very slight though and the bike is very easy to live with even if it does eat rear tyres like they are going out of fashion.

Give one a try. One of the great things about BMW dealers is that they are happy to let you have realistic test rides, normally involving at least an afternoon if not a whole day.

I had one for a few weeks. Very efficient, but ultimately it felt a bit cold and soulless. Bikes should be about passion and excitement, and I never felt as if I was involved. Sold it and bought a B'King (and got shot of the original exhaust for a Two Bros PDQ!).
Speaking of which, if anyone's interested, I'm selling. 700 miles only....

I'm just thinking of a K1200R and due to test ride one this week.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you selling the B'King? I was looking a one the other day and was planning a test ride.

Long story short.... I lost a friend in an accident a few weeks ago, and I'm re-assessing my life. I know all the arguments for and against, but I've decided to knock it all on the head. Not an easy decision; bikes have been a big part of my life for many years, but it's time to move on. Maybe I'll be back one day, but for now....

As for the B'King, cracking bike. Looks huge, but once moving it shrinks to almost 600-ish. Accelerates like nothing else. It feels faster than my old 'Busa, but I reckon that's because you're stuck out in the wind. Have a ride; if you can get past the looks (I actually like them, now those mahoosive pipes have gone) I reckon you'll love it.

Thanks for that and sorry for your loss.

How would you compare the two bikes against each other?

Could you commute / tour on either?
