Really sad news, heard a spectator has died too?? my feelins go to the family and his child!

These road races will be banned soon and to be honest they should be, as great as they are we are losing fantastic riders every year and nothing is done,

Why should they be banned? Each rider knows the risks and yet still chooses to partake.

Spectator safeties a different matter though

If you ban them, all that will happen is that the hardcore will start running their own races illegaly on the public roads without marshalls, barriers or spectator safety.
There are enough nutters treating the highway as a racetrack with their mates without giving them even more reason to do so.

At least by running these races officially there is respectability, organisation and safety; drive it underground, and all that disappears. Just look at the way the underground drag scene has been taken over by criminal gangs in America for instance; big money bets, links to organised drug dealing and even murder are becoming more and more common.
Yes, this is an extreme example, but if it has happened over there it is usually only a matter of time before it happens over here.

A dreadful loss indeed, but once again a mature adult who knew the risks he was taking in competing in his sport to that level.
Keep the road races legal.

Just to confirm news according to BBC Northern Ireland is two male and one female injured not life threatening, female in hospital. No spectator death mentioned; fingers crossed that is true.

As for the ban it statement; get some perspective. Road racers choose to do it, and road racing fans choose to watch it. Nobody is coerced, everyone attending knows its dangerous; those who can't accept that stay away.

RIP Martin

Any death is sad of course, but we lost many more years ago. Real road racing will always be the most dangerous sport on bikes but if these people want to do it, and let us enjoy it, then why not. As said before they know the risks, and in fact they are probably less than riding on the road day in day out. A lot of road racing legends are that because it takes balls to do that and not as much technical skill.. not to say that these riders aren't skillful as obviously they are, but yer man was never a great track rider and quite a few others were not great at both. I know Hissy and Foggy won on roads and track but at the end of the day it should be the riders choice.
